Hatha yoga which is also called hatha vidya is one of the most important forms of all yoga’s. Hatha yoga deals with different yogic postures. Hatha yoga mainly uses bodily poses which are known as asanas and breathing techniques which are called pranayama.
About hatha yoga –
The main function of hatha yoga is to teach the body the vehicle for the soul. This form of yoga also teaches that meditation can bring the body into excellent health. It also allows the spiritual part present in the brain to move forward unreservedly.
Hatha yoga plays a very vital role for the mind, since the main focus of the mind is on earthly possessions. Yoga and meditation helps the mind focus on the spiritual part as well. Hatha yoga binds the body and the soul as one without any sort of differentiation. This form of yoga brings about harmony, balance and purification.
The main focus of the asanas in hatha yoga is to teach the body to achieve balance, poise and strength. The asanas in hatha yoga are essential to accomplish much better results for meditation. Proper mediation can only be achieved when the body is prepared in the most appropriate manner.
The aspects in regard to hatha yoga are-
Yama: Yama is related to the most appropriate practices to be initiated by an individual, which should be followed throughout ones life. Yama teaches an individual compassion, non-deception, non-violence, honesty, truthfulness, how to get rid of greed, cognisant and non-abusive sexuality and security.
Niyama: Niyama is related to personal practices which should be adhered to by an individual. It deals with contentment, self-examination, purity, discipline and spiritual growth with the almighty.
Pranayama: Pranayama deals with the right breathing techniques or practices. Deep breathing techniques help in clearing the mind for preparation to perform mediation in a correct and most suitable manner. Proper breathing also makes the mind prepared for being free spirited.
Pratyahara: Pratyahara helps in the withdrawing of the senses which would help to focus better and achieve dharana.
Dharana: Dharana aids the mind to concentrate in a much better manner, which in turn helps the mind to use chants which work towards freeing the mind.
Dhyana: Dhyana is called single pointed attention. Dhyana is an improved form of meditation which aids in concentration and helps the mind stay focussed in one single direction.
Asana: Asanas are related to the physical exercises which are required for Hatha yoga. There are many asanas which constitute different levels of difficulty. Asanas help to perfect the body and clear the mind, while preparing it for enhanced meditation.
Samadhi: The literal meaning of samadhi is transcendental bliss. With samadhi one can realise the indispensable state of joy. The main exercises which are present in samadhi yoga are much difficult than with other forms of yoga.
Hatha yoga primarily works to combine all the forces in life to achieve happiness and spirituality. You can perform all the essential duties in life with concentration and deliberation. Hatha yoga results in overall good health and well being.
