Tea tree oil is an effective medication for the cure of yeast infections which is extracted from the tea tree Melaleuca alternifolia, exclusively found in Australia. The potency of the oil in substantially curing the burning sensations of Candida is an approved study in American Health Association. The active ingredient which kills the basic ground for the nurture of Candida is Terpinen4-ol. The recommendation of the application of the oil is for the outer surface of the body in a diluted form as the concentrated oil is harmful to the skin. Inner intake of the oil is restricted.
History of the oil: The tree was discovered in the year 1770 when the sailors of Captain James Cook prepared a perfumed tea from the leaves of a tree in the valley in New South Wales. The residents of South Wales employed the extract of tea tree leaves for the cure of burns, cuts, insects’ bites and athlete’s foot. Gradually, the medicinal property of curing Candida was discovered.
Precautions required with tea tree oil:
- Tea tree oil should not be applied in an open wound. If the itching, burning and rashes in the areas of Candida infection have developed cuts in the particular region, use of tea tree oil is not recommended.
- Tea tree oil should not be consumed orally. However, in case of thrush or mouth yeast infection, gargles of tea tree oil are advised.
- Children should be kept away from the concentrated oil. Eye contact with the oil is harmful to the eyes.
- For the avoidance of rashes and burns, small and diluted quantity of oil should be applied on the affected area.
Quantity of consumption: Oil should be diluted from 15 to 20percent to avoid burning sensations in the sensitive areas like armpits, tongue, vagina, breast, and in the soft and vulnerable skin of an infant.
Studies on the efficacy of tea tree oil:
- The survey by the British Health Center on 55 people: 5% tea tree oil and 10% tea tree cream effectively reduced the sores of Candida infections in women.
- 5% tea tree oil was compared to 5% benzoyl peroxide lotion in an Australian Study Center in eradicating the microscopic bacteria and fungus.
Other methods employed in the eradication of yeast fungus:
- Garlic clove
- Unsweetened yogurt
- Homeopathic sprays and creams
- Boric acid
- Nystatin
- Amphotericin B
- Diflucan
- Sporanax
- Nizoral
- Lamisil
Tea tree oil and other natural medicines are good substitute for the complete eradication of yeast infection but a doctor’s advice is recommended if the above mentioned medicines cause burning and itching in few sensitive cases.
