It is very important to know the problems of late age pregnancy. Many women start to plan their pregnancy in mid 30s or older than this. In today’s date, 1 out of 5 women has her first child after age 35 in US.

Basic Fertility in Late Age in Women

  • Women experience somewhat decrease in fertility from their early 30s
  • Women over 35 may be less fertile as compared to younger women. Women after 35 tend to ovulate less frequently.

2.       At age 30, 1 in 1,000

3.       At age 35, 1 in 400

4.       At age 40, 1 in 100

5.       At 45, 1 in 30

6.       At 49, a 1 in 10

 

According to US College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), it is said that all pregnant woman should have the test for Down syndrome and certain other chromosomal birth defects.

Miscarriage Increase as a Woman gets Older

It is very important to know that the risk of miscarriage increases with the age of a woman. Here are the calculated data about the age and percent of miscarriage:

·         20% at ages 35 to 39

·         35% at ages 40 to 44

·         50% by age 45

The age-related risk of miscarriage is caused due to chromosomal abnormalities.

Preexisting Health Conditions

  • It is possible that women over age of 35 have more risk of health related problems as compared to younger women.
  • Some specific type of health conditions can take place after 35. These conditions are high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney or heart problems
  • All these conditions can affect pregnancy

Women in their late 30s or 40s may face more complications as compared to younger women.
