Causes of Frequent Urination in Women
Even though frequent urination is a problem which women face commonly, it doesn’t mean that men are not affected by this problem. Some of the causes are same for both the sexes. However, women are more prone to this condition due to the structure of their body and relatively higher rate of hormonal changes. Some of the causes of frequent urination in women are as follows:
· Hormonal changes are one of the most general causes for this condition in women. Variations in hormone levels during pregnancy, menstruation and menopause causes frequent urination.
· Urinary tract infection (more common in women) is another reason for the problem of frequent urination in women. The affected individual, in such cases might also experience pain while urinating and the urine is foul smelling and cloudy. At times, it might also comprise blood.
· Swelling of the bladder is also a common problem in women which could result into frequent urination. Other causes of this condition are kidney failure, bladder carcinoma, multiple sclerosis, nephritis, etc.
· Multiple pregnancies are another cause which could also cause reduced bladder support. This is caused due to the weakening of the bladder and the pelvic floor muscles which results in the incapability to hold and release appropriately.
Women with high blood pressure or heart conditions are frequently prescribed diuretics by their doctors. This medication is taken to flush the body of unwanted fluids. This might cause you to urinate more frequently, but they are necessary for the treatment.
Other things such as alcohol, carbonated beverages and even some foods could cause this condition in women by acting as a diuretic. You could cut these from your diet for a while to see if there is some change. Some could be tomato, caffeinated beverages, artificial sweeteners and chocolate. Adding foods rich in fiber could also help. Further, constipation could also worsen overactive bladder syndrome.
Problem of frequent urination in women is normal in certain conditions such as pregnancy, but if you have no such reasons or you are experiencing extra symptoms such as pain or blood in the urine, then you need to seek medical attention immediately.
