Belly wraps have been around for quite some time but these postpartum, girdles like garments are marketed off late under the names like Taut and Belly Bandit. Several doctors, mothers, celebrities and trainers have expressed their satisfaction towards these post delivery belly wraps by saying that these wraps help them to get their pre pregnancy shape back at the earliest.
Post Delivery Belly Wraps
For women who feel that they are completely out of shape after their delivery, these belly wraps have always been quite useful. Women can wear this belly wrap for a period of 4 to 8 weeks, immediately after giving birth. However, before wearing it it’s always better to check with your gynecologist.
Since belly wrap has served different medicinal purposes through centuries, women are quite familiar with it. Since such wraps increase abdominal support when worn, it has proven effective for people with back pain. Belly wrap or belly binding known as Haramaki in Japanese is quite common in Japan. Through proper posture, support and warmth on the abdomen, flabby tummy can be reversed as per the Japanese medicine.
Latin American women, in order to reduce puffy tummies have used Faja (belly wrap) for thousands years. They believe in the same principle of giving energy and heat to lessen loose skins around the navel. The same methodologies have been followed by Europe and US to reduce the tummies, developed particularly after pregnancy.
On the whole, many people believe that post delivery belly wraps work by the technique of compression. The puffy skin in order to reattach to the muscle needs certain amount of pressure and heat. In other words, the belly wrap helps the uterus to return to its normal size quickly by providing gentle compression on the abs. It helps new mothers to get rid of puffy stomach quickly.
Types of Belly Wraps
There are several different belly wraps, varying from the simple ones to the more expensive or sophisticated ones. Keep in mind that when you wear the belly wrap for the first time, it must hold your abdomen tightly but comfortably. Some types of belly wraps are:
- Velcro Belt Belly Wrap: Since this cotton made belly wrap is soft enough to wear over the wound, it is best suited for women who have undergone cesarean surgery. The fact that Velcro can be fastened anywhere around the wrap is its main advantage.
- Button up Waist Clincher: This button wrap belly wrap is made of cotton lining and rubber on the outer side. It’s not recommended for women who have undergone caesarean surgery because of its tightness.
- Post Surgical Girdle: This belly wrap is usually prescribed for post liposuction and is one of the most expensive wraps. However, it also works well postpartum. This wrap is highly comfortable when going out and is not seen under the clothes.
Remember, post delivery belly wraps only assist the loose skin to reattach to the muscles of the stomach. It doesn’t help you in getting back to your earlier shape i.e. before pregnancy. You need to perform few exercises in order to supplement with the belly wrap. You can achieve an attractive figure within a short period with the belly wrap combined with exercise.
