Alternative therapies for hot flash include some treatments which are not considered as traditional. Hot flash is a medical condition where patient feels intense heat along with sweating and rapid heartbreak. This can happen for 30 minutes to one hour and at anytime. Some people experience these symptoms at night in sleep (this is called night flashes). The sensation of heat is felt in the chest or face and then it starts to spread throughout the body. That’s why the term hot flash is given to this condition. In this, the face turns red and temperature becomes high. The duration and frequency of hot flash can vary and this fluctuation leads to another disorder called rosacea.

There are various methods and procedures for treating hot flash disorder. Different consultants have different opinions about these treatments. There are some traditional treatments available, but many doctors doubt about its results. Here, we are looking at some therapies which were not popular earlier, but nowadays more and more people are opting for them. Following are few of these:

  • Change in Lifestyle: This is the most effective and less expensive option available, especially for women. A lot of disorders are related to your lifestyle and habits. If your lifestyle is well disciplined, then half of the diseases won’t bother you. Our daily routine can have impact on our health and disorders like hot flash too. For example, eating too much spicy food or having too many glasses of wine with dessert leads to hot flashes. Mental condition also plays role in this. If you are under too much stress or work pressure, this situation can also be responsible for hot flashes. You can change your lifestyle by changing your habits and routine. It doesn’t take too much to change. You just have to follow a healthy routine with some disciplines. There are some do’s and don’ts that you should follow. They are as follows:

                Do’s

1.       Always wear natural breathable fibers. Let your body breathe some air. Also, avoid constrictive breathing.

2.       Avoid eating spicy food regularly. Also, avoid too much consumption of hot drinks.

3.       Reduce alcohol and caffeine intake

4.       Apply cool wet compress to cool down

               Don’ts

1.       Always eat balanced diet and do proper exercises

2.       Practice slow and diaphragmatic breathing

3.       Try to increase intake of vitamin B and vitamin E

This treatment helps to solve problems of hot flashes if the problem is under that category. However, it cannot resolve hot flashes if it’s due to hormonal imbalance. In this therapy, there are no side effects.

  • Herbal Therapy: Another safe and alternate way for hot flashes is herbal therapy. This is totally risk free treatment and extremely effective. Herbal remedies are most prominent and comparatively cheapest way to treat the problem. The main advantage of this therapy is this can be used for treatment of hormonal imbalance unlike other ways.

There are two types of herbs used in this treatment. They are:

  1. Phytoestrogenic Herbs: These types of herbs contain estrogenic components that are produced by plants. These herbs are used to treat hormonal imbalance which is the most common reason for hot flashes. However, this treatment is not very useful for women as the external supply of estrogen reduces the ability of producing its own estrogen in the body. This can result into further decrement of body’s hormone levels.
  2. Non-Estrogenic Herbs: These herbs don’t contain any estrogen. These herbs stimulate the hormone production by nourishing the pituitary and endocrine glands, causing them to more efficiently produce natural hormones. This treatment is beneficiary for women as there is no external estrogen supply to hamper the natural production of hormones. This treatment balances hormone levels of the body. The combination of these two approaches can be helpful to overcome hot flashes.

These are some alternative therapies for hot flashes. By following them, you can easily overcome this disorder.
