Why do I always feel sleepy baffles many people as excessive sleepiness alters their daily routine and general behavior. Sometimes, it leads to conditions like hypersomnia or extended sleepiness while some people experience drowsiness during the day. This is not a normal thing and forces them to think ‘why do I feel sleepy all the time?’
Usually, people with too much lethargy are prone to recurring napping. It becomes a problem when it occurs at inappropriate times. For example: at the work place, during day time or in the middle of a conversation. Sometimes, it is difficult for some individuals to control such kind of untimely sleep. Furthermore, it leads to irritation, mental turbulence, decreased vigor, and memory loss to some extent. - Illnesses like multiple sclerosis, gloominess, encephalitis, epilepsy and excessive eating habits.
- Idiopathic hypersomnia in adolescents and Kleine-Levin Syndrome which is a neurological disorder.
Is it Possible to Control the Excessive Sleeping Habit?
It is possible to control the excessive sleeping habit, unless and until the reason is any sort of severe illness. For this, the understanding of causes for sleepiness helps to a great extent. Besides, following good habits and an active life-style can help a person to control lethargy. Usually, there are two steps that can help to avoid feeling sleepy all the time. These are: stop eating late and avoid sleeping late.
After eating, the body divides its energy for digestion. This process remains same even when a person eats late at nights. And when it happens, the sleep time that helps to revive the body to prepare it for the next day gets focused towards the digestive system. Hence, it is very important to understand that eating late affects the quality of sleep. Also, people who postpone the key resting time i.e. between 10pm-2am fail to get a good quality sleep. As a result, the next day routine also gets affected as the person is likely to feel weary through the day.
How to Prevent Excessive Sleepiness?
It is possible to prevent too much drowsiness. In fact, it may help an individual to reduce the risk factors for the dreadful diseases that it may cause. There are very general and common things that one can do like control on the intake of drugs and alcohol addiction to prevent excessive sleepiness. In addition, practicing well-timed and good sleeping habits will help to escape sleepiness during daytime.
People should avoid slumbering during the day. Furthermore, it is advised not to forcibly change one’s biological rhythm, as taking a job that requires shift work can disrupt their cycle.
