Hypothyroid Medication

To examine whether the patient is suffering from any thyroid disorders various tests are conducted as the medication depends on the hormonal level inside the body.
In case of hypothyroidism at first an elevated TSH (thyrotropin) and the thyroxine (T4) level is confirmed. Another testing is also done for antithyroid antibodies and determining cholesterol levels which are really important to be diagnosed.
The most recommended treatment for Hypothyroidism where patients indicate clear blood tests showing high TSH (generally 10 mU/L and above) and low thyroxine (T4) levels is thyroid replacement.
There are many thyroid hormone replacement procedures available. Some of them are:
Levothyroxine: It is a synthetic T4 hormone replacement that is very popular since a long time. It is treated as an alternative to the existing natural thyroid replacement. Synthroid is the oldest and most popular drug prescribed by most doctors as a treatment for hypothyroidism. There are other generic versions of this brand too like Unithroid, Levoid and Levoxyl. The amount of T4 in some generic products is outside the FDA range, which requires additional testing of thyroid hormone levels. Therefore doctors either do not prescribe them or choose brand names only.
Combinations of T3 and T4: Triiodothyronine (T3), is an important thyroid hormone which is not ordinarily prescribed except under special circumstances. Thyroxine (T4) alone can give positive response in most patients, which is can be converted in the body into T3. Sometimes the use of T3 may cause disturbances in heart fluctuations this is why some patients are treated with thyroxine only.
The combination products containing T4 and T3, such as liotrix (Thyrolar), are available, but there are some controversies concerning their benefits. Patients might like the combined drugs because they cause more weight loss but many times they have not proved to be so advantageous for normalizing TSH levels and can cause some side effects either.
Natural Thyroid Hormone: It is a dried powdered thyroid hormone called Armour Thyroid or Thyrar which is made from animal glands. This is a legal, regulated, prescription drug. It is the most common form of thyroid therapy since a long time but is no longer nowadays recommended because of the varying potencies. One of the best result of this product is it even reduces the risk of developing autoimmunity factors in the body.
Some alternative medicines are also suggested like Ayurveda, Chinese medicine, herbal treatments, mind-body therapy, or naturopathy.
A natural supplement for thyroid health is THYROMINE
Thyromine is an all-natural thyroid treatment that works with the body internal systems and helps the thyroid gland in producing the right amount of hormone that is necessary for everyday needs. For more information, visit this URL: www.thyromine.com
