We have a tiny butterfly-shaped gland located at the lower part of our neck over the windpipe or trachea. Thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) are hormones that extract iodine form the blood and are synthesized by the follicular cells within the thyroid gland to regulate the body metabolism and energy levels.

The thyroid hormones are chemical messengers which inhibit the chemical processes of the body by sending commands to the cells. They are also given the task of controlling the nitrogen balance and protein synthesis. This is why both high and low balanced thyroid hormones create a lot of problems and needs to be corrected using appropriate methods.

High thyroid is the condition of Hyperthyroid where the level of T3 and T4 hormones increases inside the body, the effect of which results in speeding up the metabolism.

There are certain causes that lead to thyroid over activity. One of them is grave’s disease. Our immune system produces TSH, the thyroid stimulating hormone. In Grave’s disease, an abnormal antibody is produced which is not a stimulating hormone but acts as one generating a higher level of thyroid hormone. This abnormal antibody may also stimulate inflammation in the eyes causing other associated problems.

Some of the common symptoms that occur with the rise in thyroid hormone are increased heart beat, feeling warm even in a cool place, nervousness, moist skin, interrupted sleep, osteoporoses, weight gain, goiter, and cessation of menstrual periods in women.

Hyperthyroidism is often seen in different forms:

  • Thyroid storm: It is state of emergency caused due to the over activity of the thyroid gland. Sweating, restlessness, diarrhea, loss of consciousness and fever are symptoms of this disease. This condition gets severe in cases of infection, diabetes, pregnancy and surgery.
  • Thyroiditis: This condition develops because of inflammation caused by overactive thyroid.
  • Toxic nodular goiter: In this form of hyperthyroid, the nodules or tissues called adenomas found in the thyroid starts acting abnormal and discontinue working under the control of the stimulating hormones but still they do not stop producing hormones.
  • In many cases secondary hyperthyroid is also found. This is caused by the tumor in the pituitary gland due to which bulk of thyroid stimulating hormones are produced that leads to continuous stimulation of the thyroid gland.

Some time before Hyperthyroid as well some other thyroid related diseases did not had some effective cure but nowadays various treatments are available for healing these problems from its root cause.

Antibiotics are most suggested by doctors. But this has been very much found in some sensitive cases, that the intake of some medications resulted in an increased level of hormones and thus causes severe hyperthyroidism. This is a major reason that people (especially women) are choosing herbal extracts to cure most of their thyroid diseases to avoid side effects.

According to Dr. Lizzy: “Thyroid hormones T3 and T4 both are an essential need for our bodies as they help in enhancing our general protein synthesis and also maintain the nitrogen balance inside.”  If we tend to avoid their care, it may lead us to the doors of various diseases. So it would be better to stick to natural treatments but definitely with your doctor’s recommendation to heal your problems effectively.
