These are lots of benefits of peppermint for health in medical science. Peppermint is known to be a hybrid perennial plant of watermint and spearmint. Apart from its minty scent, it has a great nutritional value too. It contains nutrients like minerals, manganese, calcium, potassium, copper, iron and vitamins A, B2 along with C. 

 

Along with all these, it contains a high menthol content which is very important for its medicinal use. It is also used in soaps, shampoos, moisturizers and shower gels.

The health benefits of peppermint vary according to time and research on it. Some of the benefits are listed as below:

  • Peppermint oil has the ability to treat respiratory problems, indigestion, headache, fever, stomach, nausea, and bowel spasms and pain.
  • As peppermint contains menthol, menthone and menthyl esters, peppermint along with its oil has benefits in cigarette, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, chewing gum, tea or ice cream industry.
  • Peppermint oil is widely used as a flavoring agent which doesn’t have any negative impact on health as compared to other artificial agents.
  • Peppermint oil is very useful for massage as it contains minerals and nutrients.
  • It also contains omega-3 fatty acids, along with Vitamin A and Vitamin C which are very important for health.
