Smoking is an activity which has its root in the first destructive war between the nations; the First World War. Before the war, cigars were in fashion amongst the representatives of elite classes of Britain and America. The repercussions of war led to the moral and mental breakdown of soldiers and public. It gradually led to the increase in the production and sale of cigarettes among the bourgeois and poor. The moral and psychological dependence of the soldiers on the drug slowly converted into a fashion statement of the disturbed youth in Britain and America. The reasons and factors contributing to the intake of cigarettes changed simultaneously with the growing age. Let us examine the factors for smoking cigarette:

  • A symbol of manliness and adulthood: Man wants to do what he is constrained to do. Lots of people who jump into the influence of tobacco wants to prove and behave like an adult. That piece of the stick tempted them to forget their sensitive age and innocence. Man desires what he wants. Consequently, cigarette was one of the tools to prove his manliness and maturity among friends and family.
  • Cigarette is fascinating: There is something in nicotine which attracts a teenager towards its consumption. It is still regarded as a style symbol: to influence classmates or girls.
  • Mental breakdown: The stress reducer image of nicotine has transformed some of the non-smokers into hard core smokers when they are hit by the blow of destiny or fate. Loved ones death, unsuccessful career, inferiority complex of color or money and unfulfilled love are the most common causes amongst mature people to take up smoking.
  • Peer pressure: The child’s incapability to fulfill the expectation of parents and relatives compel them to take up the course of nicotine consumption. Unable to become good performers, they end up becoming an addict and smoker.
  • Cigarette, a social taboo: When adolescents are hit by the first puff, they smoke because they cannot resist it in future. Consumption of cigarette is still considered to be cool and stylish.
  • To cope with depression: This reason is generally correlated with women smokers. Women are more sensitive than men to bear emotional and psychological breakdown.
  • To ward off the effects of loneliness: Isolation and aloofness on personal and psychological level can convert an anti-smoker to a chain smoker. The rumors associated with cigarette that it is relaxing to mind and body attracts many chicken hearted people to the intake of nicotine.
  • Smoke reduces weight: Some people consume smoke because of its false notion that it is helpful in controlling weight. Infant, nicotine is responsible in killing the appetite of the bearer which makes a person weak and pale.

Smoking a cigarette has numerous false notions attached to it but limited solutions are available in the market. With sincere efforts, one can resist the cravings of nicotine; which can be made easier by seeking the aid of an organization or a natural and effective product which can dilute the ill effects of nicotine.
