If you’ve decided to quit smoking then you can imagine how difficult it is. That’s why it’s very important for you to know the best and natural ways to quit smoking. When thinking about the most natural way to give up your habit, the first thing that comes to your mind is about going cold turkey. Of course, this method is not the easiest to do, especially if you have been smoking for a long duration. In fact studies show that quitting cold turkey is only successful for those who have taken up smoking within the last 12 months.
So the next step that you should take is cut down on the amount of cigarettes that you smoke regularly. The idea behind this is if you reduce the number of cigarettes by 1 or 2 each day, you won’t have to suffer too much from the nicotine withdrawal from your body suddenly. It’s better to reduce the nicotine intake slowly. Many people say that this theory has worked for them.
Why it’s so Hard to Quit Smoking?
Smoking is definitely an addiction, but its how the addiction affects your body that makes it difficult to stop. When you smoke, the nicotine that goes into your body triggers an immediate release of sugar in the blood stream. A sudden lack of sugar in the blood is what causes most withdrawal symptoms. This is the reason why people tend to eat more when they quit smoking.
Create a Quit Smoking Plan and Move Forward
One of the natural ways to quit smoking requires proper planning. Creating a plan isn’t just saying that you are going to quit smoking the next day. In fact you could fail if you try that way. Set a quitting date to begin with. Don’t set the date for tomorrow or next week; instead mark a date on your calendar that is 3 to 4 weeks away. The next step you should do is to simply slow down on your smoking. For e.g. if you are smoking 15 cigarettes a day, cut it down to 12.
Drink plenty of water as it helps to flush your body toxins. Always keep yourself hydrated as you quit smoking. It’s good to stay active by doing some physical activity like exercise as it works both to reduce the desire for smoking and helps to keep the pounds off when you eat more during quitting.
Another natural way to quit smoking is to find a healthy substitute for this habit. This means every time you get the urge of smoking, you do whatever you have chosen instead. Many people substitute food for cigarettes, but there are many other things that you could do. Generally, you need something in your mouth like a chewing gum, a sucker lollipop or even a carrot stick which could keep you away from lighting a cigarette.
Habit is the main reason for you smoking about half of the cigarettes. Morning tea, break time or after a meal are all common times for smoking. As you move towards your quit date, try to avoid this habits by not smoking during these periods.
