It is well said that beauty is skin deep, not just figuratively, but literally. A healthy, glowing, soft skin enhances your beauty and makes you look more attractive. There are very few people who are gifted with a skin that does not require much care; most of us have to take good care of our skin to keep it healthy. In winters, the combined effect of dry and cold air on our skin makes this ordeal even harder. You must take good care of your skin throughout the year, but more so in winters, when the natural oils of the skin are lost owing to the harsh weather.
There are certain ground rules to be remembered to let your skin be as beautiful in winters as it is in summers.
- Keep your Skin Hydrated – Have you ever wondered why your skin gets so dry and rough in winters? It is so because it gets dehydrated easily due to the low temperatures and the dry, cold winds. To avoid this, drink plenty of water and hydrate your skin from the inside. Although might not feel thirsty much, yet drink about eight glasses of water every day to avoid your skin from getting dry.
- Avoid Soap – Soaps will take away the natural oils of the skin making it dry and flaky. Use mild cleansers or body wash suiting your skin type. These cleansers are gentle on the skin and do not dry it.
- Take Warm Showers – It feels good to have a hot and long bath during winters, but it can dry your skin and make it chapped and rough. To avoid this, you must take warm and short baths. You can also mix a few drops of bath oil in your bath. This leaves a thin film of oil on your skin surface, making it look soft and fresh.
- Nourish your Skin with a Moisturizer – Apply a moisturizer that suits your skin type immediately after bath. The moisturizer should be applied while your skin is still damp. This will trap the moisture inside and will prevent it from evaporating, thus keeping your skin supple and soft. Pay attention to special problem areas like elbows, knees and heels.
- Keep a humidifier at home – The dry winter combined with central heating expedites removal of moisture from the air and from your skin. A humidifier will replenish the air with moisture which in turn will replenish moisture in your skin.
- Use Sunscreen – Contrary to the popular misconception, sunscreen or a sun block lotion becomes even more important in winters as compared to summers. This is so because the snow reflects the sun rays making them penetrate even deeper into the skin.
- Keep a lip balm handy – Don’t forget that lips are an essential feature of your face and chapped, dry lips not only look bad but also cause pain. Since lips do not have oil glands, you have to keep it moisturized at all times with the help of a lip balm.
- Exfoliate regularly – Exfoliate your skin with the help of a gentle scrub to remove dead cells that accumulate and contribute to make the skin excessively dry.
These are some simple tips that you can easily follow with your daily routine. Following them will let you spend the winters flaunting a beautiful and healthy skin that glows from inside.
