A smooth, satin like skin not only increases your beauty manifolds, but it also gives you the confidence of wearing dresses of your choice, without having to worry what part of your skin will be visible.
Winters bring with it dry weather, harsh winds, low humidity and low temperatures, which removes the natural oil of the skin, causing it to become dry, chapped and sometimes scaly in extreme cases. In winters, you must take extra care of your skin to keep it smooth and dryness free. The best way to do this is to make use of softening moisturizers which make your skin supple and soft. However, since everyone does not have the same skin type, there are different types of moisturizers which are suited to different types of skin.
Moisturizing your way to a Healthy and Smooth Skin
The first and foremost way to keep your skin healthy during the harsh winters is to keep it hydrated by maximizing the intake of water. Since there is no loss of water from our body through perspiration during winters, we don’t feel much thirsty and hence the water intake goes down, causing the skin to get dehydrated.
Moisturizers generally come in five types; Cream based moisturizers, Fluid moisturizers, Gel moisturizers, Oil moisturizers and Serums. Before making use of any of these, you have to first identify your skin type. The moisturizers for each skin type are mentioned as follows:
Dry Skin: This type of skin suffers the most during winters. Since this skin type is already dry and has less amount of natural oil as compared to other skin types, it gets all the more chapped and scaly in winters. It is very important to moisturize this type of skin, not only for aesthetic reasons, but also because the harsh, cold winds can cause the skin to break, which can be very painful.
The best moisturizers to use for this skin type are the cream based ones. They are the thickest and the heaviest moisturizers available and are perfect for those who have very dry or dry skin.
Combination to Oily Skin: This type of skin needs a moisturizer that is light and does not have not too much of cream. The fluid moisturizers are best suited for this type of skin. They do not over moisturize the skin or cause it to get sticky and oily.
Very Oily skin: It is a general misconception that this type of skin does not need to be moisturized. For this skin type, you must use gel moisturizers which are the lightest and get absorbed quickly into the skin.
How to Moisturize
One of the other important points to understand is to know how to moisturize your skin to make it respond to the moisturizer the most.
While moisturizing, make sure that your skin is damp, because then the pores will be open and will be able to absorb the moisturizer properly. Pour some amount of moisturizer on your palm and put dots of it on your skin. Massage this moisturizer using circular motions of your hand, while moving outwards and upwards.
Always make sure that you apply moisturizer only after cleansing and toning and there should not be too much delay in applying it once you are done bathing.
