Taking care of your skin is one of the most important steps in following a beauty regime. Different people have different types of skin, each one requiring different products and procedure to be taken care of. The most difficult type of skin to be maintained is the combination type of skin as it requires different type of care in different parts.

What is combination skin and how to identify it?

A combination skin is one in which the forehead, nose and chin, known as the T-zone, is oilier and the cheeks are drier. The width of this T-zone determines whether the combination skin is more on the drier side or the oilier side.

To determine if you have a combination skin or not, check your nose and forehead 20 minutes after washing your face. You have a combination skin if they look shiny. Also check your forehead, nose and chin in the morning, and if they appear shiny even when you did not use a night cream, then you most certainly have a combination skin. Another way to make sure that you have a combination skin is to check the pores of your nose and forehead. Your skin is combination type if they are slightly visible on your nose and forehead in a regular mirror. People having combination skin most likely suffer from occasional blemishes in the T-zone and dry patches on the cheeks and jaw line.

Nourish skin from within

The best way to have a healthy, glowing skin is to nourish it from within. This could be done by eating a balanced diet full of vitamins and proteins. If necessary, you can also take appropriate supplements. Remember that it takes at least three weeks for newly formed cells to reach the surface of the skin, so it takes time for lasting results to be sustained on the skin.

Vitamins A, C and E, selenium and zinc are the essential antioxidants that enhance collagen repair and greatly promote healing of the skin. Essential fatty acids also make a long lasting positive impact on skin because they form a barrier to prevent loss of moisture from the skin.

Skincare routine to be followed for Combination Skin

  1. The area that needs to be cared the most is the T-zone. Go for gentle cleansers and moisturizers that will work to strike a balance between oil and dryness.
  1. Always use deep-pore cleansers suitable for combination skin.
  1. Use an oil-inhibiting moisturizer that will provide enough hydration for the dry areas without affecting the oilier areas in a negative way.
  1. A gentle toner can also be used to keep the central panel of the face shine-free. However, do not use it on dry areas.

Precautions for a combination skin type:

It could be a very difficult task to care for a combination skin because of the opposing needs of the different parts. You must take care so that you do not exacerbate either the oiliness or the dryness.

This could be done by avoiding the following:

  1. Over washing – This will make the cheeks drier while stripping oil from the T-zone, causing the sebaceous glands there to become more active and produce more oil.
  1. Mixing products – Do not mix and match products for different skin types, thinking that it will suit your combination skin more. Use products specifically meant for combination skin.
  1. Heavy moisturizers – Using heavy moisturizers for dry areas of your skin will nourish them will over lubricate the T-zone. Aim at striking a balance with a light, non-pore-blocking lotion.

Following these easy steps will help you in taking care of your combination skin just the way it ought to be and you will have a skin that will make you feel proud and not hassled.
