Moles are made up of specific type of cells which are used to distinguish from others which have a fleshy appearance.

Important Aspects of Mole Growth on Skin

  • Everyone has moles at the time of birth. Most of the moles are not visible, but get darken as time passes.
  • A skin mole is made up of cells named melanocytes. Moles are present throughout the skin which is a part of skin pigmentation.
  • When melanocytes appear in cluster formations, they lead to skin mole
  • Mole growth on skin may appear to be flat or raised. Some moles grow a few hairs which are perfectly normal.
  • Since skin mole is common, these can be removed using different methods depending on the size of the mole.
  • Sometimes, herbal mixtures and acids are used to remove the mole growth on skin. It is very important to be conscious about removing normal mole.
  • Keep in mind that all moles have the ability to turn into skin cancer. Sudden changes in a mole like bleeding, rapid growth, or irregular size needs immediate attention of the physician.
  • Sometimes moles can become very large, causing scarring upon removal. There are squamous cell and melanoma present in moles that can metastasize quickly and spread cancerous cells.
  • Moles are a natural part of the body. Everybody has average 10-50 moles which are localized growths of melanin skin pigment. Moles are ranging in color from pink, brown to black.

Treatment of Mole Growth on Skin

  • Simple surgery can remove a mole easily with little pain
  • During surgery, the physician numbs the mole along with the surrounding area. Then he /she shaves off or cuts the offending mole with the help of a scalpel followed by stitching the wound.
  •  Electrosurgery is also used to remove a mole. In this process, mole gets removed with the help of scalpel and electric needle. This helps to destroy the deeper tissue present below the mole.
  • Laser surgery is also used for the treatment of mole growth on the skin. It is performed by a dermatologist. In this process, the doctor numbs the area around your mole using local anesthetic, and then destroys the nevus tissue. Skin usually needs 1-2 weeks to heal.
  • Liquid nitrogen treatment is another important technique to get rid of mole. It is also known as freezing. Doctors apply liquid nitrogen to the mole; as a result cells of mole get destroyed, removing the mole in the process.
  • Cryotherapy is also used as an option, but is somewhat painful and causes scarring.
