The skin is the prime part of the body and it provides an impervious covering to defend the rest of our systems. Age spots and wrinkles are mainly caused by aging and ecological damage. Causes of premature wrinkles could be either intrinsic or extrinsic factors. Intrinsic aging comes from the inside of our bodies, largely from our cells while extrinsic factors come from the atmosphere.
Intrinsic Factors
A great deal of our appearance is genetically preprogrammed into our cells. The color and elasticity of our skin come directly from our parents. The skin of African and American people is usually oilier and thicker than the skin of Asian people. Oilier and thicker skin tend to age more gradually while people with dry, thin skin tend to see their first wrinkles in their late twenties or early thirties.
Some individual’s skin tends to age earlier than others, again, due to heredity. There are chances that you could start seeing wrinkles on your skin at age 30, if you mother had seen the same on her skin at the same age. Rapid aging is a result of Werner’s syndrome, an inherited disease. Individuals with this disease could look older by their thirties, with gray, thin hair appearing in their teens. These individuals normally don’t live past their mid 40s.
Smoking
Smoking is one of the significant causes of premature wrinkles. A study conducted by dermatologists from the Utah University found that individuals who smoked merely 2 packs of cigarettes a day for twenty five years were 5 times more likely to develop wrinkles like crow’s feet than people who didn’t smoke. Another study found out that facial wrinkle increases with the amount of cigarettes smoked per year.
Other Causes of Premature Wrinkles
- Sun’s rays cause harm to the skin and it’s the main reason for the development of wrinkles. The UV rays cause damage, so it’s better to apply sunscreen before going out.
- Sleeping positions also pose a cause for wrinkle development. Individuals who prefer sleeping on their sides are more prone to wrinkle development. Sleeping in the same position for a longer period of time is not suggested. It’s always better to sleep on your back.
- Dry skin also causes wrinkles. Thus, you must keep your skin well hydrated at all times. You can use a moisturizing cream which could prevent wrinkles for a longer time.
- Facial expressions also play a role in premature wrinkle development. Recurrent expressions such as squinting or smiling cause the loss of the skin’s ability to bounce back after the expression. Thus, this could at times be a cause for facial wrinkles at an early stage.
- Skin could develop wrinkles when exposed to environmental pollutants such as dust, chemicals, air pollutants and harsh lights. Thus, it’s good to wash your face and hands after reaching home.
- Loss of weight causes a drastic reduction in the volume of fat cells. As the volume is radically reduced, it promotes the skin to sag and fold.
There are many causes of premature wrinkles and also several things to avoid those. Apply sunscreen on exposed skin, particularly hands, face, chest and neck and become aware of all the above causes mentioned above.
