Impotence Remedies

 Impotence is also called as erectile dysfunction (ED) or penile dysfunction. It is the inability to achieve a satisfactory erection of the penis or to stay hard for satisfactory sexual activity. Erectile dysfunction is indicated when, there is no erection consistently or it is impossible to produce in spite of arousal. Psychological impotence is when the erection or penetration fails due to thoughts or feelings and not the physical impossibility. Impotence is not discussed openly as there is a strong culture of silence, but the fact remains that it is experienced by many men at some point of their lives.

Causes of impotence:- The causes of impotence are various and many of the conditions are treatable.

  1. Cardiovascular disease and diabetes
  2. Neurological problem
  3. Hormonal problems
  4. Side effects of drugs
  5. Psychological or relational problems
  6. Surgery of colon, prostrate. Bladder or rectum
  7. Male circumcision (Some times)
  8. Ageing
  9. Substance abuse
  10. Arterial disorders
  11. Lifestyle like drugs, alcohol and obesity
  12. Smaller penis size

Diagnosis of ED:-There are no formal tests to diagnose impotence. Blood tests may be done to check for some underlying disease. The simple way to determine if the impotence is physiological or psychological is to check if the patient has ever experienced an erection. Impotence is also listed in the current diagnostic and statistical manual of mental diseases. Clinical tests may be used during diagnosis:

  1. Duplex ultrasound
  2. Penile nerves functioning
  3. Nocturnal penile tumescence
  4. Penile biothesiometry
  5. Penile angiogram
  6. Dynamic infusion cavernosometry

Impotence remedies:- Treatment of impotence depends on the cause and many herbal remedies are also used. Most of the treatments are not long term and maintain an errection only temporary, i.e. during intercourse.

  1. In case of hormonal problems, testosterone supplements are effective
  2. ED can be treated by drugs taken orally, injected or as penile suppositories
  3. Exercise like aerobics also helps in case of ED
  4. External vacuum pump can be used when medications are less effective
  5. Oral treatment includes use of enzymes
  6. Surgery can be done as a last resort and includes insertion of artificial rods
  7. Counseling is done when the cause is psychological

Lifestyle changes :-To enhance the libido, there should be some changes in the life style. Studies suggest that when men with ED make improvement in life style there is increased rates if success when supplemented with other medication.

1.    Adjust medications for depression, high BP, etc that contribute to impotence

2.    Quit smoking

3.    Loose excess weight

4.    Exercise regularly

5.    Avoid excessive alcohol consumption

6.    Optimize blood sugar levels

 A man is said to be impotent when he is unable to conceive or there is problem with his errection or libido. There are many causes of impotence and there are impotence remedies or herbal remedies.
