Healthy life is the aim of each human being whether you are a man or a woman. Let’s focus on the most common diseases in men.
Common Diseases in Men
Young men between 18 and 35 years are at a risk to some common diseases that, if left untouched, can result into permanent damage. Although men tend to suffer from fewer ailments as compared to women, they can be affected with many serious conditions.
Cholesterol
Cholesterol is a Lipoprotein found in many types of foods. This Lipoprotein is a combination of lipids and proteins which are divided in two types:
1. Low-density Lipoproteins (LDL)
2. High-density Lipoproteins (HDL)
LDL cholesterol can accumulate in the arteries carrying blood from the heart to all parts of the body. As a result these arteries turn narrow by cholesterol deposits and eventually can choke off which leads to heart attacks and strokes.
This is the most common disease in men. Doctors suggest a few tests to check the total cholesterol level. The goal of any heart related treatment is to lift the level of HDL cholesterol and cut that of LDL cholesterol.
High cholesterol can be avoided by Lifestyle changes, avoiding meat and saturated fat food in diet, losing weight and exercising. It is very important to take the medications given by the doctor.
Colon Cancer
It is also known as colorectal cancer and occurs due to the growth of abnormal cells in the colon or rectum forming tumors. Colonoscopy is conducted to check the presence of cancer. Its treatments involve removing polyps by surgery.
When cancer is identified at a later stage, then help of chemotherapy or radiation is taken.
Diabetes
Diabetes affects a large percentage of population in the World. There are two main types of diabetes:
- Type 1 Diabetes: becomes apparent at a very young age
- Type 2 Diabetes: this occurs due to resistance and deficiency of insulin
There is a greater risk of developing diabetes in men, if there is any family history of this disease. Strict control of blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol is essential in this disease.
High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
Blood pressure is explained as how hard the blood is pressed against the walls of the arteries. It is also one of the most common diseases in men. Blood pressure is
Systolic which is pressure of blood when the heart is pumping and Diastolic which is pressure of blood when the heart is relaxed and filling the blood.
The following are some important causes of hypertension:
- Advancing age
- Lack of calcium and potassium intake
- Being overweight
- Family history of high blood pressure
- Insulin resistance
- High intake of salt
Heart Disease (Cardiovascular disease)
It is also the most common disease in men which can be avoided by healthy lifestyle, healthy diet, and plenty of exercise.
Heart disease is usually inherited and can be controlled by consumption of high fiber foods, vegetables, fruit, and whole grains.
All these commonly occurring diseases can be kept in control, provided you have a healthy life style and positive attitude towards life.
