What Causes Thyroid?

Thyroid is the most important organ of our body. This gland is located below the neck almost in the front portion near the thyroid cartilage. Its basic function is to generate correct amount of thyroid hormones for regulating the growth of various tissues and maintaining the metabolism and energy level in the body. These hormones are transferred to the vessels through the bloodstream to perform the other functions of the body.
Any improper functioning of this gland creates various problems for the entire body which can be seen in imbalanced secretion of the thyroid hormones. The thyroid hormones may get overactive causing a disease called hyperthyroidism. Sometimes the hormones may become underactive and this problem is named as hypothyroidism.
Causes that leads to thyroid diseases are:
- Unhealthy diet: When you do not intake proper nutritional diet the body has to suffer the deficiency of various nutrients especially iodine. Iodine is the most important mineral required for the production of thyroid hormones (T3 and T4). Deficiency of iodine can lead to thyroid goiter which was one of the most common diseases in the past. Insufficient production of thyroid hormones takes place when the body becomes iodine deficit.
- Deficiency of iron, magnesium and vitamin A can also lead to various thyroid disorders.
- Thyroiditis is a disease than can cause thyroid problems. It encourages inflammation in the thyroid gland due to which it is unable to produce enough hormones.
- Genetic factors can cause thyroid malfunctioning as the infected genes are transferred from the parents body to the children.
- A very common cause of thyroid difficulties is hypertension. Stress otherwise also causes many problems as it directly attacks the heart and mind. Under activity in the production of hormones takes place in the body of the person who is continues to stay under chronic stress for a longer period of time. Common problems that are mostly detected are severe depression and nervous break downs.
- Imbalance of hormones takes place during pregnancy as well as menopause. Both are the most risky factors of women life that leads to thyroid diseases.
Therefore nowadays doctors suggest people especially women to take precautions before pregnancy and intake herbal extract or other natural supplements to avoid the risk of miscarriage. Not only women but any person who has to suffer any hormonal difficulties should start using healthy supplements as soon as the problem begins.
