Most thyroid tumors are non cancerous but some of them have been found to be malignant too. Basically a thyroid tumor is a solid mass accumulated in the thyroid gland. Our thyroid gland has to perform all the major functions of regulating the metabolism and energy in the body by producing essential hormones. The ill effects of a non performing thyroid gland are reflected in the form of unstable blood pressure, fluctuating body temperature and cholesterol levels. It also affects the nervous system and other cells and organs of the body as well. These symptoms can occur at any age just like thyroid cancer which has been detected as early as in adolescence.

Thyroid tumor has many forms. One non cancerous form which is found in many cases is adenomas. The disease may turn into hyperthyroidism is the thyroid tends to produce amount of hormones. In this the various thyroid hormones are secreted. Other harmful forms are:

Papillary thyroid cancer:  Its development takes place in the cells that produces iodine filled harmful thyroid hormones. It is very harmful but can be treated easily if diagnosed on time. It does takes years to grow and can spread like fire in the thyroid gland moving towards the lymph nodes as well.

Follicular thyroid cancer: In this type of cancer also, the problem starts developing in the cells that produces thyroid hormones having iodine. The treatment of this cancer is not possible if the detection is not done one time.

Anaplastic thyroid cancer: This is really common and is growing on a faster rate. It covers a major area of the neck with bacteria and other abnormal cells that are poisonous and spread on a faster rate.

Medullary thyroid cancer: The disease starts developing in the cells that produces hormones called calcitonin that does not contains any iodine. The infection of this cancer is so very harmful that can spread to other parts of the body also.

Many times thyroid tumors are left untreated as some of its symptoms resemble various other diseases. Its symptoms include difficulty in breathing and swallowing, nodules in front of the neck, harshness in voice etc.

Blood test or ultrasound examination is the very first step to be taken before choosing any treatment only because until and unless you’ll get to know the severity of the disease, taking appropriate treatment is not at all possible. Solutions that are recommended by most doctors are hormone therapy, radioactive iodine therapy, chemotherapy and surgery in cases where the situation has gone out of control.

Do not take any medication or therapy without a good doctor’s advice as any chemical treatment may give irreversible side effects that cannot be cured on time. You can try some natural treatments to maintain health security but that even they are not suggested without a consultation with your doctor.
