Thyroid diseases are becoming more and more common nowadays. The endocrine system present inside our body is a collection of few glands and essential organs that performs the function of producing thyroid hormones. These hormones are responsible for regulating the body’s metabolism and energy levels. Thus a slight imbalance in this function of the thyroid gland directly affects the entire body.
Thyroid cancer is also called thyroid carcinoma. In this, the cells become cancerous and multiply incessantly to cover the entire gland. Its appearance can be seen as swelling or origin of small lumps on the neck. The small lumps are also known as nodules or thyroid tumor. Most of the nodules are non cancerous but some of them promote high risk of cancer and other thyroid related diseases. Four forms of cancer that can attack the thyroid glands are papillary, follicular, medullary, thyroid lymphoma and anaplastic thyroid cancer. A sub form of follicular cancer is hurthle cell cancer. Cancer does not emerge immediately. The disease develops gradually over many years spreading its infection deeply to other areas also especially the blood vessels, lymph, organs, nerves and nodes.
Nodules or lumps in the neck are the first and foremost symptom of a person who is at the beginning stage of cancer. Other common symptoms that can be seen are:
- Neck enlargement along with sever pain
- Harshness of voice
- Breathing difficulties
- Problem in swallowing food
- Sever cough and cold along with drops of bleeding
- Discomfort in neck
- Lymph nodes also get enlarged
- Pain in the throat
- Other allergies in the neck
- Shifting of nodules on one side
- Nervous problems
Sometimes nodules can affect the trachea causing problem called superior vena cava syndrome. In case a person is suffering from extreme level of cancer, he can even have a feeling of movement or shifting of the entire thyroid gland. Aggressive tumors in the thyroid can even cause brain related or neurological problems.
Many people argue that all of these symptoms cannot be reduced on time or some might say that cancer cannot be treated at any cost but this is not at all true as thyroid problems have a cure. They can be treated with due precautions and along with the use of herbal medications that start their actions from within and heal the problems gently without giving any side effects.
