The side effects of steroids are enough to worry the average person away from its use. While the media reports the bad effects as a complete sureness, it’s vital to note that the majority of the frightening outcomes come from steroid abuse from those who are uneducated, unaware to or discourteous of the dangers of the powerful hormones.
Of utmost interest to athletes who are fascinated in building muscle and enhancing performance are those anabolic steroids which have been made to generate the most anabolic effects while reducing androgenic effects. Eliminating androgenic effect completely is not possible as these effects are mostly anabolic effects happening in sex based tissue.
There are several side effects of using any medical treatment including steroids. The following are some things an athlete might experience through the use of steroids.
1. Your body wants to conserve a balance of hormones, so following a steroid routine would send a signal to your body to close down its natural hormone creation. The levels of shyness differ depending on the type of hormone ingested and most often production of hormone resumes after the athlete stops his/her steroid routine.
2. The liver could be affected with vocally ingested steroids. It means that studies have revealed the levels of liver enzymes increase after ingesting oral steroids which is a signal of liver activity. While some experts say that this is an indication of probable liver damage, other studies have revealed that enzyme levels return to normal when the athlete stops taking the steroid.
3. Steroids could affect levels of cholesterol also. Athletes who use steroids show increased levels of LDL’s (bad cholesterol) and decreased levels of HDL’s (good cholesterol). This might also be the reason for anabolic steroids to have been linked to cardiovascular problems as well.
4. Anabolic steroids boost the levels of estrogen in the body which could lead to female like breast tissue in males. However, there are anti estrogen drugs that could help reduce this risk. Similarly, females who use anabolic steroids could begin to develop male distinctiveness such as hirsuitism or deepening of the voice, clitoral enlargement, etc.
5. Athletes who use anabolic steroids could also experience increased acne; this is often associated to the amount and type of steroids used.
6. One of the most frequently alleged side effects of steroid use is increased aggressiveness or sometimes obsession is more common in people who were aggressive to begin with.
7. Some steroids stop the growth of people who use them before they have finished growing. This is one of the few side effects that couldn’t be upturned through stopping a steroid regimen.
8. There are some other effects on internal organs (caused by the dose and type of steroid as well as the effects of the training/exercise routine which goes along with trying to bulk up) that are often upturned at the end of steroid use. These include high blood pressure, prostates, kidney problems and changes in the immune system.
9. Infertility is also a potential side effect as the hormones in the body are distorted during the use of anabolic steroids. This could often be remedied or reversed with appropriate hormone treatments.
Always keep in mind; side effects of steroids are very severe as users do experience bad and negative side effects.
