Swedish massage is an effective form of massaging wherein the tenseness of the muscles is removed. This massage therapy uses strokes along the integral body parts. Body aches and pains are relieved from the body with the usage of tapping and kneading strokes.

Swedish massage therapy works for the improvement of deeper muscle tissues which are manipulated against the fundamental bones. In Swedish massage the massage therapist follows the direction of the blood flow towards the heart; this stroke enhances the flow of blood. This massage therapy aids the heart along with its natural functions. Individuals are known to recover from muscle aches at a much faster rate since the stimulated tissues take in extra oxygen which enriches the blood.

Mentioned below are some Swedish massage techniques:

Swedish massage uses techniques such as: effleurage, petrissage, friction and vibration.

Effleurage massage technique: This Swedish massage technique is implemented to stroke the tension out from the body. During this technique the toes are clasped with one hand and the ankles are given support by the other hand. The foot is made to rotate along with flexing the toes backward and forward. Thumbs along with palms and fingertips are mainly used for this technique for deeper penetration.

For the chest area during effleurage the hands are placed by the side, below the collar bone with stroking down the chest area. The areas behind the shoulders and the neck at the base part of the skull are also stroked.

Petrissage massage technique: In this massage technique the various sore and painful muscles are lifted and grabbed in a light manner. During petrissage the chest is kneaded gently and rhythmically, with the usage of fingers and thumbs. The skin should not be pinched. Tendons and connective tissues are made much more supple and conducive for effective and proper blood flow.

Friction massage technique: During this massage technique, circular pressure with the thumbs is applied on the muscles which are situated between the ribs.

Vibration massage technique: During this technique one of the palms is placed on top of the other, right below the ribcage on the left side of the abdomen part. A trembling movement or vibration is created when the upper forearm is contracted. At a slow pace the hands are pulled towards the pelvis and procedure is continued in a clockwise manner.

Neuromuscular massage technique: This massage technique is used to heal the muscles in an individual. This technique comes under the category of deep tissue massage. With the implementation of this technique the blood flow in an individual’s body is enhanced. Neuromuscular massage involves slow stroking and direct pressure on the tissues which travel around the grain of the painful muscles.

Regular Swedish massage provides a complete overhaul for the nervous system and the musculoskeletal system. Stress can be completely removed with the help of Swedish massage.

All the massage techniques have to be used and implemented in tandem with each other. An individual can return completely rejuvenated and relaxed after a good Swedish massage.
