A variety of Ayurvedic massage oils have numerous benefits that help to maintain a proper balance of the three constitutions of  body, that is vata (meaning air), pitta (meaning fire), and kapha (meaning both water and earth). What are the Types of Ayurvedic Massage Oils?

There are lots of Ayurvedic massage oils that are advantageous for general body massage. One can mix the different formulas by altering the compositions and can try different varieties of massage oils to get the desired benefits.

Usually, Ayurvedic massage oils are categorized as per the gender and age of individuals or as per the body constituent that needs to be stabilized. The most commonly made classification of Ayurvedic massage oils are as under:

1.       Ayurvedic Massage oils for women and children – Here, 2 tablespoons of almond oil, wheat germ oil and jasmine oil can be added to 4 cups of sesame oil.

2.       Ayurvedic Massage oils for men: Here, take 2 tablespoons of mustard oil, 4 cups of sesame oil, and heat it with ½ teaspoon of asafoetida. Further, filter this mustard oil and then cook by adding 3 tablespoons of turmeric powder. When the turmeric turns dark brown in color, add it to the sesame oil.

3.       To stabilize Vata, Pitta and Kapha: Sesame is used to stabilize ‘Vata’, coconut is used for ‘pitta’ while mustard or olive oil is used to balance ‘kapha’ in the human body.
