Impact of smoking on the heart corresponds to the injuries and evil effects received by the heart muscles due to the toxins found in smoke. Smoking is a hazardous activity which gradually supplies toxins and carcinogens like nicotine, tar, cyanide, carbon mono oxide and arsenic to blood. The function of heart muscle is to pump blood to the numerous body parts. The lethal effects of smoking in the form of tobacco and marijuana directly hampers in the normal functioning of heart.
Cardiovascular diseases caused by smoking:
Atherosclerosis: This disease is caused due to the narrowing and thickening of arteries which supply blood. The thickening of blood vessels is the result of accumulation of fatty substances on the interior layer of arteries. The deposition of cholesterol and plague leads to the disruption in the supply of blood to the heart. This disease causes severe heart diseases, stroke and artery diseases.
Heart attack: Heart attack is caused due to the excess pressure on the heart. When the heart is unable to plump the supply of oxygen for more than the standard time then an acute is followed with increased heart beats. For the adequate supply, heart pumps oxygen which is carried by the blood molecule, hemoglobin. The carbon mono oxide supplied by smoking binds with the hemoglobin molecule and replaces oxygen in the blood. The deficiency of oxygen pressurizes heart to pump rigorously which causes sharp pain and attack.
Aneurysm: The walls of the arteries are swollen due to the lethal effects of toxins found in smoking. This increases the chances of clotting or bursting in the arteries which immediately ceases supply of blood to the heart causing heart failure.
Coronary heart diseases: The immediate impact of smoking on heart is the sudden increase in the blood pressure which eventually raises the rate of heart beats. During the first thirty minutes of smoking, the rate of heart beat is increased by 30%. This forces the heart to work harder against the blockage of oxygen supply to the heart.
Statistical Data available:
- According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, 37% people died due to cardiovascular diseases caused by the fatal effects of smoking.
- The British Heart Foundation stated that 9% women suffering from heart diseases die due to the lethal effects of smoking on heart.
- Researchers in American Heart Institute have concluded that consumption of marijuana in the form of smoking increases the amount of proteins in the body which aids in adding the deposition of fatty substances in the arteries causing heart attack or a failure.
To prevent the above mentioned diseases due to the evil effects of smoking, a doctor or a rehabilitation center should be consulted.
