Acute chest pain is basically the symptom of a serious condition that should not be overlooked. After ruling out the serious causes of chest pain, you can look for the treatment measures accordingly.

What is Acute Chest Pain?

Acute chest pain is a dangerous thing that should not be ignored. In fact, it is one of the most terrifying symptoms that a person can face. For example, in many cases, it is difficult for a medical practitioner to determine the exact cause of acute chest pain in a person. As a result, it becomes difficult to make a conclusion whether it is critical thing or not.

Many times, the chest pain caused involves other body parts like bones, esophagus, heart, lungs, muscle and skin of the sufferer. This is due to the intricate nerve distribution in human body where the chest pain may originate from another part of the body. Sometimes, stomach upset also can cause chest pain in humans.

Causes of Acute Chest Pain

Usually, acute chest pain is faced by a person in the left side of chest. Though the characteristics differ as per the cause of the pain, it is possible to manage it. Many medical professionals distinguish acute chest pain into types, namely the cardiac causes and the non-cardiac causes.

  • Usually, a person suffers heart attack when a pressure or severe pain is created in the chest region. This type of pain lasts for several minutes which spread to other body parts like your back region, neck, jaw line, shoulders, arms and particularly your left arm. As a result, the person suffering from it faces shortness of breath, sweating, giddiness and occasionally vomiting with chest pain.
  • Sometimes, a person suffers from angina where a pressure or stiffness is caused in the chest cavity of the person. This lasts for several minutes which occur usually due to bodily or emotional stress. Here, circulation of blood to the heart gets restricted.
  • A swelling in the pericarditis region also causes acute chest pain in many individuals. It is basically a sac that encircles your heart. Here, the person suffering from this kind of pain becomes pale and suffers from fever.
  • Another reason that causes acute chest pain is the aortic dissection. Herein, a person suffers from severe pain when the inner layers of the main aorta breaks up and forces blood in between them, causing sudden tearing in the chest region.
  • Non-cardiac causes of acute chest pain are heartburns. It is basically a kind of hurting and burning sensation that takes place at the back of your sternum. This is escorted by an acidic taste wherein the sufferer faces regurgitation. This phase happens after having a meal where the pain lasts for a few hours.
