- The difference between the child’s ability and actual achievement
- Family history of learning difficulties
- Difficulties with spelling
- Confusion of left and right
- Writing letters and / or numbers backwards
- Difficulties with mathematics problems

- Difficulty in following 2 or 3-step instructions at a time
Symptoms of Dyslexia in Detail
Notable difference between the child’s ability and his/her actual achievement.
· Child with dyslexia struggles during reading, spelling, etc., but appear very normal during talking to you.
· This is the strongest indicator of dyslexia
· It is very common for dyslexic child to be strong in the areas of creativity like art, drawing, drama, etc. and physical work.
· There are slit differences in the neural links of their brain that makes them hard to deal with text and numbers without extra support.
A Family History of Learning Difficulties
· Dyslexia is often hereditary
· It can be caused by ear infections
· In both cases, it is harder for a child to decide the difference between similar sounding words.
Difficulties with Spelling
Dyslexic children face difficulties in jumbled spellings. Here they write all the correct letters, but in the wrong order. For e.g. dyslexic child may write dose as does, friend as freind etc. These jumbled spellings directly show that the child is having difficulty with visual memory. Like a normal child’s visual memory, visual memory of a dyslexic child may not be sufficient for this task.
Confusion Over Left and Right
Dyslexic child finds it’s very difficult to point left foot with his or her right hand. They also may have difficulties with east and west directions.
Writing Letters or Numbers Backwards
Dyslexic child always mixes the letter 'b' and‘d’, or ‘p’ and the number 9. As these letters are mirror image of each other, it causes confusion for a dyslexic child.
Difficulties with Maths
Dyslexic child faces difficulties with sequencing or arranging things in the right order.
Difficulties Organizing Themselves
Dyslexic children and students have genuine difficulties with planning and thinking ahead about wheather a book or pen is needed next.
Difficulty Following 2- or 3 Step Instructions
Some instructions involve sequencing and memory skills, both which dyslexic child cannot do properly.
Keep in mind that no two dyslexic children can have exactly same symptoms as above. However, if your child is having difficulties with spelling or writing, then it may be time to think and consult the doctor.
