The knee is the largest joint in the body and generally, one of the most stable. It has huge ligaments which organize its movement and large muscles to give it power and steadiness. Regardless of the strength of the knee, it is often injured because of the very large forces placed on it in sports and recreational activities. Physiotherapy for joint pain is one of the effective treatments and also closely involves physiotherapists for knee assessment and treatment.

There are several causes of knee pain, varying with the age of the person and the activities they follow. Your physiotherapist is the best person to diagnose and treat your knee problem effectively.

Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is the most familiar joint condition in the world. Knees are frequently affected with the symptoms like swelling, pain, stiffness, reduced range of movement and disability. Exercise is the main management strategy and physiotherapists can assess the knee and plan a treatment.

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a health care occupation concerned with human function and movement and maximizing potential. It uses physical approaches to maintain, promote and restore psychological, physical and social well being, and taking note of variations in health status. Physiotherapy is a science based treatment dedicated to applying, extending, evaluating and reviewing the evidence that underpins and informs its practice and delivery.

Physiotherapists work in a great array of settings such as intensive care, pediatrics, orthopedics, mental illness, stroke recovery, occupational health, ergonomics, and care of the elderly.

Advanced Physiotherapy Treatment for Knee Pain

The days have passed when a tendon problem was treated strictly with anti-inflammatory medications. Inflammation is part of the healing process. While chronic inflammation is awful, it has been observed that anti-inflammatory at the delicate stage can damage the healing process and therefore, should be held back for chronic inflammatory situation.

Conventional treatment includes elevation, muscle and ice toning exercises. Tens or ultra sound could be included in the treatment plan for certain conditions. Depending on the nature and degree of the injury, recovery with these methods could take anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months.

An advanced treatment plan has been developed that uses low intensity laser therapy in combination with physiotherapy for joint pain and active exercise. The laser therapy plan utilizes 3 different wavelengths and power of light to speed up healing by increasing circulation, cellular repair and lymphatic drainage.

Laser therapy is trouble-free and speeds the recovery rate by up to 4 times. In addition, researchers have discovered that laser therapy decreases formation of scar tissue in torn muscles, tendons and ligaments. With less scar tissue, elasticity of tendons and ligaments are maintained, repaired tendons and ligaments become stronger and the possibility for a return of complete range of movement is enhanced. Eventually, the possibility of re-injury along with recovery time is reduced.

Active exercise is started once joint pain and swelling are reduced. Active therapy includes range of motion exercises, education and succession to strengthening activities when suitable.

This collective approach is highly efficient when treating all joint problems. The advanced treatment of physiotherapy for joint pain has been clinically proven to reduce recovery time by 30%.
