Boosting immunity in kids is a matter of concern for all parents. We live in an age where attacks on the immune system are common. The environment in which kids have to be brought up is full with challenges and unhealthy situations. If your child is always getting sick or you are concerned they might become sick, then you might want to try some immune boosters and natural remedies. Possibly the best part about these methods is that they could be administered in your home and over time, you would see marvelous results.

Instructions for Boosting Immunity in Kids

  • Bedtime needs to be strictly enforced upon children as they need more sleep than adults. Make sure that your kid gets at least 8 hours of sleep each night as lack of sleep helps to break down the immune system.
  • Make healthy meals that your child would actually like. This could be very challenging if you have a picky eater child. On the other hand, don’t permit your child dictate to you what they would eat every day.
  • Boosting immunity in kids requires you to give child lots of fruits and vegetables. If you have a school going child, try to get a monthly copy of the school lunch menu.
  • Make sure that your child gets plenty of exercise as this would help to boost their immune system. Take away video games and computer for some time and send them outside to play or to a designated playroom.
  • Make sure that your child drinks more water and less juice as toxins could build up and can weaken immunity when there’s not enough water in the diet. Sugary drinks could actually dehydrate and increase your child’s need for water.
  • It’s tough for most parents to do all of the above things all the time, so adding a dietary supplement provides a bit of insurance.

Fighting Infections

Manuka honey is another natural immune booster. It has anti bacterial properties and could be given to help fight off infections. However, manuka honey is not intended to be given to children under the age 2 as it could create a condition called botulism. The immune system in children is not completely developed till they reach the age of 2 and therefore, they cannot be given manuka honey (it’s a complex sugar and could be hard to breakdown in young children and babies).

What not to do?

It’s equally imperative to understand what children should not eat. Loading up on junk and food which is not fresh or that which is full of additives and chemicals can impair an otherwise healthy immune system. Some foods could worsen certain conditions and further affect their immunity.

Aiding Digestion

Another amazing natural remedy for boosting immunity in kids is acidophilus powder which could be given to boost the health of the digestive system. It’s said that 70 % of an individual’s immune system resides in their digestive tract. A sound digestive system could account for sound immunity.
