IBS has shown to affect women more as compared to men. This condition usually occurs during 30 years to around 50 years. It is categorised as a dysfunction of the intestines.
Causes of irritable bowel syndrome-
Irritable bowel syndrome cannot be categorised as a disease. It is referred to as a disorder. Irritable bowel syndrome is usually due to some kind of food eaten which upsets the stomach or the digestion. There are some cases which also suggest that irritable bowel syndrome is also caused due to a virus or bacteria. Stress is also known to cause IBS, as when people get stressed the tensed muscles constrict blood flow.
Symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome-
The chief symptom of irritable bowel syndrome is severe abdominal pain. Some other symptoms of IBS include- excessive gas, diarrhoea, constipation, bloating in the abdominal area and a sensation that the elimination of stools was incomplete.
Treatment for irritable bowel syndrome-
IBS can be cured in the following ways-
Change in diet: A change in diet is advocated. One should choose eating natural and healthy food items. Herbal colon cleansing is also advised to restore the proper functioning of the colon. Food items which have high fat content should be avoided. Alcoholic beverages should also be limited since it is a trigger for IBS and its symptoms.
Fibre supplements: Fibre supplements along with antispasmodic medication are known to improve gastrointestinal movement.
Refrain from stress: It is believed that IBS is a result of stress and depression. One should go in for counselling as a treatment to reduce stress. One can renounce stress by indulging in yoga and meditation. When an individual gets tensed the insides get a feeling that they are getting tangled and constrained. Tensed muscles restrict blood flow and when blood flow gets constrained it leads to discomfort and pain. One can reduce the onset of irritable bowel syndrome by removing stress or by leading a tense free life.
Antidepressants: The use of antidepressants is suggested for a short duration to reduce pain and discomfort. Antidepressants do not treat the real factors which cause an IBS attack.
Hypnosis: Hypnosis has shown to be an effective treatment for irritable bowel treatment. Hypnosis apart from treating other ills such as smoking can also treat Irritable bowel syndrome. One should get in touch with a reputed hypnotherapist to relieve oneself from IBS and its symptoms.
One should keep in mind that irritable bowel syndrome is not caused by anything and it cannot be diagnosed with blood tests and x-rays. It is a state where the bowels fail to function in an efficient manner. If one experiences severe pain in the abdomen area it should be immediately reported to the doctor.
Irritable bowel syndrome is a treatable disorder and would not cause any other disease.
