Chronic fatigue syndrome is a much more severe condition than regular fatigue. Chronic fatigue syndrome or CFS is where one feels very tired. Chronic fatigue syndrome is a complicated disorder related to fatigue which does not improve with rest. One normally experiences fatigue after a long duration of either physical or mental exercise.

CFS is known to affect adults particularly in the age group 40 to 50 years. Women are more prone to chronic fatigue syndrome than men. With chronic fatigue one becomes extremely irritable and weary. One is unable to work efficiently with fatigue.

Symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome are-

  • Muscle pains and aches
  • Feeling tired even after sleeping
  • Aches in joints without swelling or redness
  • Forgetting things
  • Hard time focussing on things
  • New types of headaches with a new strength or pattern
  • Sore throat
  • Tender lymph nodes in the neck or under the arm
  • Intense pain
  • Weakness of muscles
  • Depression
  • Disturbances in the digestive system
  • Hypersensitivity
  • Deterioration of the brain function
  • Very low levels of stamina

Causes of chronic fatigue syndrome are-

  • Muscles in the body come under stress when the body starts a new work out regime. Since the muscles are new to exercise they get tired and stressed out.
  • When there is a desperate requirement of oxygen by the lungs after a strenuous workout, and when there is no adequate oxygen available the muscles begin to fatigue.
  • When you reach a physical limit for your workout and you over strain your muscles the muscles begin to feel exhausted and tired.
  • Limited water intake after sweating out leads to dehydration and thereafter fatigue.

Chronic fatigue syndrome can also occur after an infection such as viral or cold. This syndrome can happen after some time has passed or even suddenly. Individuals who suffer from CFS as time passes are shown to get tired over months, whereas people who suffer from CFS suddenly would feel fine one day and extremely exhausted the nest day.

Chronic fatigue syndrome is also the result of viral infections, adrenal gland dysfunction and food allergies.

Prevention of chronic fatigue syndrome-

  1. One can prevent chronic fatigue syndrome by bringing about a change in ones diet. You must avoid food items such as coffee, tea, salt, sugar, chocolate, and alcohol. Eat small amounts of carbohydrates and fruits.
  2. Exercise helps for the prevention of chronic fatigue syndrome. You should indulge in gradual exercises. You should take up mild exercises such as walking at a gradual pace.
  3. Intake of food supplements and immune enhancers aid chronic fatigue syndrome patients to rebuild their stamina. Immune enhancers along with treating chronic fatigue also help in the treatment of viral infections which could be the root cause for fatigue.

When you experience chronic fatigue syndrome it would be advisable to consult your health care professional as treatments can vary from person to person. Your doctor would be the best option who would help you deal with the symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome and your exhaustion.
