Early treatment for loss of vision is the key factor in correcting vision loss. There is no particular treatment that can work for every condition, resulting in vision loss. The treatment depends on what is necessary to correct the individual problems related to vision.
Loss of Vision
Loss of vision is nothing, but complete absence of sight. People with vision loss may see nothing or find it hard to distinguish light from dark. Loss of vision involves the visual field of one or both eyes that can be sudden, temporary or permanent. Gradual loss cannot be discovered for some time, not until the car accident or other prompt events.
Symptoms of Loss of Vision
1. To have problem in adjusting from light to dark
2. Problem with light sensitivity creating extreme blinking, squinting, and tearing of the eyes.
3. Dark spots at the vision center or double vision
4. Loss of vision in both eyes for a long period of time
Treatment for Vision Loss
· Visit a medical expert when you experience blurred vision. Look for the physician first, as you can get a complete medical evaluation and examination and know about disease if any like diabetes. Let your doctor collect a blood and urine sample and send them to the lab for testing. You will get the results back within a week.
· Fix an appointment with an optometrist. He/she will diagnose eye problems and prescribe glasses. Your doctor will note down whether you have increased eye pressure, or eye infection or any kind of diseases like cataract, glaucoma, and presbyopia.
· Finish all the eye tests like refraction tests, split-lamp examination and the tonometry that optometrist will give you. You will have to undergo some other eye tests if necessary.
· Depending upon your tests results, you will be prescribed medicines, glasses or corrective surgery. Discuss all the advantages, disadvantages, side effects of the treatment if any. Get a complete idea about how the treatment can be effective.
Preventing Vision Loss
· Have a proper intake of diet rich in vitamin A, zinc, and minerals. It prevents loss of vision and delays age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
· Try avoiding smoking. It lessens the risk of vision loss. Research shows that people who smoke have more risk of vision loss.
· Use protective goggles or glasses and hats whenever you step out in the sun. This will save your eyes from straight contact with ultraviolet rays.
- Secure your eyes when you deal with power tools, skiing, swimming or doing any other sports activities that need protection of the eyes. Use specific goggles that you will find in the market.
Have regular check-ups from your eye specialist, in case you have diabetes and blood pressure issues. Clean your eyes regularly with cold water. If your eyes feel tired, put cucumber, potato or chamomile tea bags on your eyes. Treatment for vision loss is only possible when you take preventive measures for your eyes.
