Treating hearing disorders is easy and it depends on which kind of disorder you have. There are a few cases which have no treatment in the medical field or for that matter in the paramedical field. In a hearing disorder, one is unable to detect frequencies of the sound.
Causes of Hearing Disorders
As mentioned earlier, treatment of hearing disorders depends upon its type. There are different types of disorders which are listed below:
Conductive Hearing Loss
· This type of disorder can be corrected completely
· The ear and the hearing mechanism are made up of tiny parts and various nerve cells.
· The incident of malformation, damage, etc. can cause this impairment
· The most common factor of this hearing disorder is genetics which can be inherited from generation to generation.
· Sometimes, diseases like rubella, jaundice, pox, etc. can also cause this hearing disorder.
· Prematurity or anoxia during birth can result in this disorder
Acquired Hearing Loss
· This disorder can take place after the birth. These are reversible or permanent.
· This type of disorder takes place due to infections in the ear which can be viral or bacterial.
· Head injury or trauma can also affect the hearing mechanism causing this disorder.
· Sometimes, specific medicines like ototoxic drugs can cause reversible or permanent hearing loss.
· Along with this, continued exposure to noise can lead to this disorder
Treating Hearing Disorders
There are many treatment processes which can help you to cure the hearing disorder. These are briefly mentioned which depend on the cause of the disorder.
Initial Treatment
Initial treatment for reversible hearing loss is treated according to the cause of the problem.
· Ototoxic medicines are stopped, so as to improve the hearing condition
· When the disorder is due to infection, antibiotics are provided to cure it
· In case of injury, there may be a need for surgery to cure the disorder.
· Disorders related to Otosclerosis, Ménière's disease or acoustic neuroma require medicine or surgery to cure.
· Hearing disorder due to an autoimmune problem can be solved with the help of corticosteroid medicines like prednisone.
· In case of permanent hearing disorders which are mostly age-related or noise-induced, hearing devices can be used to improve the hearing and communication.
Devices used for Treating Hearing Disorder
- Hearing aid is one of the popular devices that makes sounds louder by amplifying the sound waves. This instrument can help you to carry out your day to day activities properly.
- Assistive listening devices make certain sounds louder and add the sound directly to the ear.
- One can use different types of devices in different situations. Normally used listening devices are telephone amplifiers, personal listening systems like auditory trainers or personal FM systems.
- You can also use alerting devices which alert you to picky sounds like doorbell by using louder sounds or vibrations, lights, etc. to get attention.
- If one is having a major hearing problem, then a cochlear implant may be a good option. It is basically a small electronic device that can help to make for the person with hearing disorder.
From this we can conclude that treating hearing disorders have different aspects which can work by using medicines or Para medical devices.
