Treating Headaches

Types of headaches-
Headaches can be categorised into different types such as headaches due to sinus, tension and migraine. Headaches can be easily prevented with the use of some effective and easy steps. One can prevent headaches from occurring.
Some tips to treat and prevent headaches are as under-
Avoid reading while lying down: One must avoid reading while lying down as lying down and reading is not a suitable posture for reading. While reading in bed you must support your back and head with pillows, so that less harm is caused to the eyes and the head.
Use a well lighted room: You must make sure that your room is well lit for reading to avoid straining your eyes and avoiding a headache. The source of light should come from behind your head and fall on the item which you are reading or focussing on.
Avoid holding the book too close to your eyes: When you read from a very close distance, the muscles situated in the eyes come under a lot of strain. You should place the book at the level of your chest. Do not read books which have small prints, to avoid strain on the eyes.
Refrain from reading in moving vehicles: The curves and the bumps on the road can cause headaches and motion sickness. Jerking motions in the car force the eyes to adjust to the print, continuous and frequent adjustments are harmful to the eyes.
Drink a cup of tea: Tea is extremely helpful if you have a headache which is caused due to tension and migraines. The tea which you drink must contain herbs which are helpful for curing the pain in the head. Tea has been shown to have a relaxing and soothing effect on the mind.
Receive a massage: Tension related headaches are caused due to muscle tightening. Muscles usually get tightened when there is overwork and stress. A soothing massage can help soothe out the tightened muscles and release tension from the spots in the head. While getting a massage done, you should focus on the areas such as the shoulders, neck and at the base of the skull.
Drink water: Dehydration is also known to cause headaches. Instead of having aerated drinks along with your meals you should have water. Drinking water is known to treat as well as prevent headaches.
Take the help of acupressure: Acupressure can be done without the use of any needles. For acupressure you would require to squeeze the fleshy area between the thumb and the forefinger. With acupressure you can get relief from headaches within minutes.
With the use of some effective steps towards treating headaches you can avoid taking medications on a regular basis. If headaches persist for a very long duration you must consult your health care professional.
