As a new member arrives in your family, you need to face a lot of new situations that you probably have not prepared for. One of them is the trouble of new born constipation or infant constipation. If this is your first baby, you possibly might fear at the thought of your infant being constipated, but it’s nothing really to be anxious about.
Approximately 50% of infants go through new born constipation and it could be treated easily. There are various new born stomach remedies for infants through which this constipation could be treated. For this, you just need to watch out for the signs and symptoms of new born constipation and once you are sure that your baby is constipated, you could start the treatment immediately.
New Born Constipation Symptoms
There are several signs that could tell if your infant is constipated or not. The following are the symptoms for new born constipation:
- Dry and hard stool pellets in the diaper
- Decrease in the baby’s bowel movements
- Bloating of the stomach
- Cracks or fissures on the opening of the anus
- Streaks of blood in the stools
- Crying and grunting before passing stools
New Born Constipation Causes
Bottle-fed infants are prone to get constipated since bottle milk is hard for them to digest compared to breast milk. New born constipation could also be caused due to a divergence in the baby’s diet from breast milk to other milk or due to dehydration and a change in the components of the baby’s diet.
New Born Stomach Remedy
Once you have understood that your baby is constipated, use the following newborn constipation remedies to cure the condition:
· Breastfeeding the baby could provide new born constipation relief. Breast milk contains natural laxatives which eases the baby’s bowel actions and cures new born constipation.
· If your baby is fed with bottled milk, then giving the baby an additional bottle of water daily to drink could help in lessening and preventing infant constipation.
· Newborn constipation could be treated by administering a variety of fluids to the baby. Give your baby very little cooled, boiled water to drink every 3 to 4 hours. Diluted juices can also help in providing new born constipation relief.
· To cure new born constipation, you must increase the number of times your baby is fed and decrease the quantity that is fed.
· You need to feed your baby a diet which is rich in iron and fiber
· If the baby is constipated while on a daily diet, avoid feeding the baby food items such as white bread, bananas, dairy products, pasta, apples and carrots.
Several medications as a new born stomach remedy are available for infants. The most general medication is a simethicone drop, such as Mylicon. It works by flouting down the gas bubbles in a baby’s stomach and intestines. If these remedies and medications don’t cure your baby’s upset stomach, immediately consult your pediatrician about giving the baby a glycerin enema to lessen the pain.
