Living with One Kidney

When we hear about living with one kidney, it seems like a very difficult task as we all have two kidneys in the body. But some time conditions like kidney damage happen which leave the patient with only one working kidney. Studies show that living with one kidney is manageable as it can perform the normal functions of the kidneys. It is possible that an individual may lose a kidney through injury, disease or surgery; however, even in this situation they can live a normal lifestyle. 

 

Important Aspects of Living with One Kidney

·         The kidneys perform functions like removing toxins and waste products.  Kidneys are said to be the body's natural detoxification system.

·         If one has a single kidney, it is very important to consult doctors regularly, so as to take good care of this kidney.

·         The first important advice for living with one kidney is to have frequent medical checkups.

·         Kidney monitoring will help to detect signs of kidney stress and other problems which can help to take timely treatment or adjustment of habits or diet, so as to cure the problem.

·         It is very important to maintain a healthy balanced diet, so as to be healthy. This will maintain proper metabolic organ functioning.

·         It is possible that our modern lifestyle sometimes becomes very hectic, so it is the main reason to take good care of our bodies, especially if one is with a single kidney.

·         Try to increase consumption of plant based foods. Minimize taking refined and oily (fried) foods.

·         Taking more quantity of water is another important aspect of health of the kidney. Almost every metabolic function of the body needs water which also helps to keep right concentration of blood along with other fluids 

·         Water is also necessary for maintaining biological functions and help in replenishing.

·         If one has a single kidney and drinks lots of water, this will definitely make one’s life healthier.

·         Regular exercise is also necessary, so as to maintain optimum kidney health. Exercise lowers or controls blood pressure and increases insulin sensitivity. This can help to prevent type II diabetes which can become the major reason for kidney failure.

·         When one is exercising, the toxins and other waste products get eliminated from the body. It improves circulation and metabolic functions.

·         One can also undergo the process of detoxifying to get rid of toxins that may have built up over time. These toxins are caused by polluted air and food chemicals which can accumulate in the body causing kidney problems.

·         These toxins are naturally eliminated by the colon, kidneys and the liver. In case of living with one kidney, it is not possible to eliminate these toxins. So as to prevent this problem, talk to your doctor on the detox plan that suits you.

·         Finally, while living with one kidney, one should use supplements in his/her regular diet. Deficiency of nutrients can lead to various diseases.

Keep in mind that every individual has unique requirements in these kinds of situations. One can make living with one kidney more bearable if one follows all the above suggestions.
