Cold and cough is caused due to viral infection of the mucous membranes of the throat and nose which often involves sinuses. Cough is a response to some irritation like the presence of mucus in the respiratory tract. It also occurs as an allergy to heavy dust or tobacco smoke. Common cold and cough affect a child’s intake of food, sleep, and energy levels. Not every time, visiting a doctor and spending dollars on curing the cold is possible. - If your get sore feeling in throat, then swallow a teaspoon of honey after every few hours. Honey not only coats the throat and soothes it, but is also regarded as powerful natural antibiotic.
- In cases of dry cough, peel small pieces of fresh ginger and sprinkle some salt on it and chew.
- Chicken soup has anti-inflammatory properties that reduce the activity of white blood cells. Add some garlic, dash of cayenne pepper and a natural antibiotic to clear your sinuses.
- Mix half cup of warm water with one teaspoon of lemon juice and honey and consume it several times a day.
- Massage the chest with warm olive oil or ghee; add a pinch of salt for extra potency for 2 minutes after a steam inhalation.
- Add a few drops of eucalyptus oil in warm bath water and sink into it. It will act as a vaporizer, and the warm bath will help you to relax.
- Cut ginger into half pieces and boil it with a warm cup of water. Sweeten and strain with 1/ 2 teaspoon sugar and drink hot. Have the tablespoon of carom seeds crushed and tied in muslin cloth. It can be used for inhalation to relieve blocked nose.
- Press a lemon in a glass of warm water, and sweeten it with a teaspoon of honey and drink it daily for at least 3 days. This can definitely help in treating cold and coughs.
All the above mentioned home treatments for cold and cough are effortless in comparison to the wonders they can bring to your life. Though there is no cure for common cold, there are definitely many ways to stop or at least lessen the discomfort and duration of oncoming cold. You can certainly make a trip to the drug store for relief, but treating cold and cough through homely ways can be effective for a longer period.
