Home Remedy for Cracked Heels

 Cracked heels are a sign of lack of attention to your foot. Medical name of cracked heels is ‘heel fissures’. Fissures are regular linear cut wounds that affect the surface level of the epidermis. Sometimes, it may get into the dermis which is the inner level of the skin and become painful. Let’s now focus on the home remedy for cracked heels.

Appearances of dry cracked heels mainly show zinc and omega-3 fatty acid shortage. Dry skin or ‘xerosis’ is also a common cause of cracked heels.
Cracked heels are not harmful, but when cracks are deep; they tend to become painful and also sometimes begin to bleed. This could lead to infection.
Generally, there are many home remedies for cracked heels. Here are some of the frequently used home remedies for cracked heels.

  • Apply sesame oil on cracked heels every night before sleep. It is the best home remedy for cracked heels.
  • Rosewater and glycerin mixture if applied daily on the heels can help to soothe your heels and cure the cracks fast.
  • Press one lemon in a ¼ container of water, and soak your feet in it. After this, wash your feet using pumice stone and soap to reduce the cracked heels.
  • Massage your heels with coconut oil in the night. Scrub your heels properly and rinse it off in the morning.
  • You can apply the mixture of papaya and lemon juice on the affected area. Wash off yours heels after 20 minutes to get satisfying results.
  • Soak your feet in warm water, having little soap in it for 15 minutes. It helps to loosen dry skin and also remove dead skin after wash using pumice stone.
  • Apply a foot cream specifically which works on cracked heels at night and wash it off in the morning using a pumice stone.
  • Apply the mash of a ripened banana on the cracked area, leave it for 10 to 15 minutes and wash it well. It helps in the fast healing of cracks.
  • If your cracks are causing pain, melt little paraffin wax, mix it with coconut oil and fill the cracks with this mixture before sleeping which you can  wash off in the morning. Try it for 2 weeks for better results.
  • You can also apply Vaseline jelly, paraffin oil, petroleum jelly or hydrogenated vegetable oil to heal your cracked heels.
  • To get rid of dry skin on your cracked heels, always try to avoid harsh cosmetic scrubs. You can easily make your own gentle and natural scrub with using home remedies like apple cider vinegar, honey, and rice flour. Honey and olive oil serve as natural moisturizers and will help to keep the skin of the feet soft and moisturized to prevent further cracking. 
  • Many cracked heel repair creams in the market contain chemicals that can worsen your skin and increase discomfort. So make your own moisturizing cracked heel cream by mixing olive oil along with a few drops of lemon oil or lavender oil.

Now we can say that home remedies are best cost effective and result oriented solutions one can try. But note that when home remedies are unable to cure cracked heels, it is better to consult your general physician.
