You can save a person’s life if you know what to do if he/she has an asthma attack. Asthma is a cardiovascular disease which causes problems in breathing. Many things go wrong in his/her throat, making it hard for him/her to breathe properly when an individual has an asthma attack. Increase in the production of mucus and swelling and tightening of throat are the major occurrences. These two together could be hazardous and a deadly combination.

Find Out if They Need Help
This is the first thing which you need to do. Interfering, at times could be worse than just leaving things alone. Be calm and collected as getting an individual with an attack anxious would only make things worse. At times, you must listen to the person who has got an asthma attack as he/she knows better than you as to what they need. It would be appropriate to intervene if that person is not able to signal you, either from unconsciousness or inability to breath.
Call for Help
You must first call emergency services when you decide that the person needs help. Inform them about the asthma attack that the person has suffered and if possible, give them his/her name. Call around for people with medical experience if you are in public.
Determine the Cause of Attack
Asthma attack at times occurs arbitrarily, generally due to something. It could be anything upsetting, from a sting of a bee to loud music. Remove any causes of stress, if possible. Instead, you could try to bring the individual away from the stressful situation.
Finding Medication
Ask the person suffering from asthma attack whether he/she is having any medication, if at all they are able to respond. Most individuals with serious asthma would carry something with them for a situation like this which is often an inhaler as it’s easy to carry. Help them in taking it, if necessary.
Also try to find the medication by yourself if the person is unconscious. Search bags, purses, pockets, etc. and don’t try to force the medication into the person but keep it ready in case the person revives and give it to the medical personnel when they arrive.
Person Stops Breathing
First aid tips for asthma involves this as a worst scenario. If this happens, then the individual only has few minutes before he/she suffers from serious brain damage and ultimate death. Try performing rescue breathing or CPR or have it done by anyone nearby who is trained in it. Ask the emergency services person in case you don’t know to perform the act.
Avoid non prescription herbs, remedies or dietary supplements even those which are considered to be totally natural until you discuss them with the doctor as some of them might have side effects and others might intervene with the regular medications.
Call 911 instantly for any asthma attack with serious shortness of breath.
