Allergic reactions can take place due to different reasons like food, medication, insect bites, or pollen. Most of all allergic reactions are basically harmless, but sometimes severe reactions can become life threatening, especially where children are involved. Here are some first aid tips for allergies that can help you to get an idea about how to deal with it.

- There are different signs of mild allergic reactions like redness, itching, runny nose, red bumps or hives and most commonly sneezing. Along with these symptoms of a severe allergic reaction includes swelling of the mouth or tongue, abdominal pain and vomiting, and difficulty breathing. If your symptoms are mild, take an oral antihistamine. But if the symptoms are severe, call your doctor for emergency help.
- Almost 35 million-plus people in the U.S. suffer from seasonal allergies. Sneezing, runny nose, congestion, and itchiness are common symptoms of allergic rhinitis known as hay fever. Both allergic rhinitis and allergic asthma get triggered by allergens like pollen and mold. There seasonal allergies can be minimized by changing the time and location of your exercise routine, avoiding exercise early morning i.e. between 5-8, when pollen is usually emitted. You can exercise indoors to minimize the allergic symptoms.
- Swimming is an excellent exercise, but it can have allergic effect for people. So do take advice of your doctor before starting swimming in a common pool. You doctor will recommend you a long-acting over-the-counter antihistamine medications.
- There are many allergen-specific products available in the market. Keep in mind that sometime mattress and pillow covers with harmful dust mite have allergens, so be aware to wear face mask during bedtime.
- Sometimes, the skin of the fingers are resistant to allergy reactions, but the thin skin around the eyelids is proved to be extremely reactive. We most often touch our body area including eye with finger. This can cause allergy to our eye. So wash hands immediately after foods, handling pets, and other problem substances. This can help to reduce eye symptoms in allergic individual.
- Nosebleeds are commonly known allergic condition in children. This regularly stops on its own, so it is not needed to visit the doctor. If your child experiences nosebleeds, sit up your child straight with his head tilted forward. Do not sit your child in lean back position; this can be result in, coughing, gagging or vomiting.
- You can take a medical help if your child has frequent nosebleeds problem. If the nosebleed is heavy and your child is suffering from dizziness or paleness, you can use a saline nasal spray as a first aid and a humidifier to prevent dryness in his/her nose
- Along with this, cough is the most common symptom of any allergic condition. There are many medicines available in the market which can reduce this symptom.
