A migraine headache is basically a type of vascular headache. Curing marginal headache is very important to feel better. Migraine headache is medically known as ‘vasodilatation’. In vasodilatation, enlargement of the blood vessels takes place that causes the discharge of chemicals from nerve fibers of the brain. These chemicals cause pain along with inflammation and swelling of the artery which magnifies the pain.
Migraine attacks commonly activate the sympathetic nervous system and this increased sympathetic nervous activity in the intestine causes vomiting, nausea, and diarrhea.
Migraine headache afflicts 28 million US people out of which, females suffer more frequently than males.
To cure migraine headache, use of abortive medications is very necessary. Abortive medications abort headaches by directly attacking the cause of the headache. Here are some medicines that are used in curing migraine headache.
Triptans
- The Triptans medicine used in this type of headache gets attached to serotonin receptors of the blood vessels and nerves. This narrows the blood vessels, and reduces inflammation.
- The Triptan are available only as oral tablets
- Conventionally, Triptans were used for severe migraines when other simple measures failed.
- Triptans are used as first treatment for curing migraines in patients
Ergots
- Ergots are the tablets which act same as Triptans. These may be combined with other pain relief medications, e.g. caffeine containing medications.
- Examples of Ergots containing medications are ergotamine preparations, and dihydroergotamine preparations.
- Ergots treatment results into more constriction of vessels in the heart, so they are not as safe as the triptans.
- The Ergots can cause nausea and vomiting along with prolonged contraction of the uterus leading to miscarriages in pregnant women.
Midrin
Midrin is also used to abort migraine medicine. This medicine is very effective if you use it in early headache.
As Midrin has potent blood vessel narrowing effect, it has to be avoided by persons with high blood pressure, glaucoma, kidney disease, atherosclerosis, liver disease, etc.
Natural Remedies for Curing Migraine Headache
Natural remedies are very simple in action and cheap. This treatment must be used in conjunction with your medication, so as to bring relief faster. They greatly complement each other.
Dark Room
- If you experience migraine headaches and the attack begins, then immediately go to the darkest spot of your home and slowly lay down there.
- The dark area should be warm, so as to allow the patient to relax faster. Keep your eyes open because shutting the eyes makes use of extra facial and jaw muscles that just increases the problem.
Relaxed Breathing
- A case of marginal attack increases heart rate, so your breathing must be relaxed.
- As panicked breathing increases the migraine pain, try to take long and slow deep breaths.
Lavender Oil
· Lavender oil has well known medicinal properties and is used for migraine headaches.
· If one feels a migraine attack, then start smelling lavender oil
· Place drops of pure, undiluted lavender oil behind each ear
· Also place some drops of undiluted lavender oil on the pillow
All these techniques can help you in curing migraine headache.
