In common lung diseases, lung is adversely affected by microorganisms. There are different types of problems which are associated with lung diseases. There are three common types of lung diseases:

  1. Airway diseases - In this type, tubes i.e. airways that carry oxygen and carbon dioxide become narrow or blocked by some reason. This includes asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
  2. Lung tissue diseases - In this case, structure of the lung tissue gets affected. Inflammation of the tissue makes it difficult to expand the lungs while breathing. For e.g. Pulmonary fibrosis and sarcoidosis fall under these types of lung tissue diseases.
  3. Lung circulation diseases - These types of diseases occur due to abnormal blood vessels in the lungs. This takes place due to scarring, clotting, or inflammation of the blood vessels. These diseases may also have an effect on heart functioning.
