Common Contagious Diseases

Common contagious disease occurs due to infection of bacteria, virus, fungus and protozoan. There are many types of contagious diseases present that can attack newborns, children or adults. Let us focus on it one by one.
Common Cold
- According to the report of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it is said that maximum loss of school days in US is reasoned because of common cold. Viral agents that have ability to produce common cold are parainfluenza, adenoviruses, echovirusus, rhinoviruses, and respiratory syncytial virus.
- Common cold is extremely contagious which can attack anyone during inhalation of expelled mucous cold germs from any surface to the eyes or nose.
Influenza
- Influenza viruses are also common contagious respiratory illnesses. It is more often known as Flu.
- It is observed that 20% of people in the US have this flu every year and out of these, nearly 36,000 die.
- Symptoms for influenza include fever, cough, runny nose, fatigue, and aching muscles.
- Stomach symptoms of influenza include vomiting , diarrhea, and nausea
- This flu spreads with contact as well as though coughing and sneezing
- Influenza is contagious before developing its actual symptoms
Strep Throat
- Strep throat is caused by Streptococcus bacteria (group A) and is the most common bacterial throat infection.
- Its symptoms are sore throat, fever and chills, nausea, which appears for two to five days
- Lack of antibiotic on time can form complications which are like rheumatic fever, ear infection and kidney disease, scarlet fever,etc
Ringworm
1. Ringworm is a fungal skin infection, which are basically ring-shaped patches on skin.
2. Body ringworm, tinea corporis attacks on the face, legs, arms, and body
3. It is observed that close body contact can spread it from one person to other
Giardiasis
- Giardiasis is a commonly contagious intestinal infection of parasite and is the most common waterborne disease in US.
- It can get transmitted through swimming pools, spas or direct contact
Gastroenteritis
1. It is known as stomach flu and can be noticed by vomiting or diarrhea, leading to dehydration
2. It is common in young children
Ear Infections
- Respiratory illnesses can cause congestion, which may press shut a child’s eustachian tube of the middle ear.
- Fluid present in middle ear can develop colonies of viruses or bacteria and cause ear infection.
- Although direct ear infection is not contagious, infection due to respiratory illness can be contagious.
Pink Eye
1. It is called conjunctivitis which is a viral or bacterial infection that results in inflammation of the membrane, covering the white part of the eye
HIV/AIDS
This is today’s most life threatening common contagious viral disease caused by human immune deficiency virus (HIV). It has ability to destroy the immune system, resulting in common infections that become very hard to fight for the body.
Other Common Contagious Diseases
1. Chicken Pox
2. Head lice
3. Bumps
4. Impetigo
All these diseases can affect your body if proper precaution is not taken. Always try to be isolated if you have one of above diseases.
