Piles, also known as hemorrhoids, is not a condition that anyone would want to have, but statistics reveal that they're commonly found in 50% of people between the ages 45 to 65. The answer to the question, can piles be treated with surgery is ‘yes’. Piles can be treated with surgery and at times the affected people have to undergo this surgery.
Piles occur when the veins inside the opening of the anus and rectum area become swollen and irritated and form lumps beneath the skin that can block the opening and make it difficult for having a bowel movement. Symptoms such as itching, burning, and pain are generally caused by them.
There are mainly two types of hemorrhoids or piles as classified by physicians:

The main reason people end up at a doctor's clinic for having treatment or surgery is the use of a cream to mask the symptoms.
Piles can be treated and can be resolved through surgery. At times, they end up resolving on their own or the people who suffer with them relieve piles using creams, sitz baths, OTC pain medications, or other treatments. However, those treatments don't work always and then they might have to undergo piles surgery.
Piles though not serious or life threatening, do cause irritating symptoms. You still need to get them checked to ensure that it isn't some other issue such as anal fissures or colon cancer, as they have similar symptoms of itching, pain, bleeding, and inflammation.
When is Surgery Required?
The surgery for piles is necessary when they get so big that they make it exceptionally hard or impossible to have a regular bowel movement. Until you get that surgery done, it's important not to do things that can make them swell more. Add more fiber to your meals to loosen up the stools, so that it creates less strain on the piles or perform exercise for improving your blood circulation. This helps the blood not to clot and thus not turn into a piles condition.
Piles surgery can be performed using lasers or forms of manual removal to cauterize the swollen nerve endings of piles. The surgery can be performed only after consultation with your doctor.
There are many types of piles surgeries and some are less persistent than others. Given are a few methods:
Lancing Piles Surgery: This is the simplest type of piles surgery and is performed through lancing the hemorrhoid that's affected. This is generally performed for piles that are inflamed acutely and have clot. The clot is removed by placing a small incision over it. Through this you get instant relief from the pain.
Infrared Coagulation Piles Surgery: Infrared coagulation is another type of piles surgery performed to get rid of them. In this method, a ray of infrared light is beamed onto the piles, so that the blood vessels clot. The area contracts and retreat in few days once that happens.
