Obesity is a condition of excess of weight gain due to the unhealthy and irregular eating habits. Obesity has been defined by the American Health Association as a bodily state in which the ideal mass increases by 20%. It is a primary factor in the increase and decrease of glucose level in the body. The research at Canada Health Institute suggested that after the world wars, there was a sharp decrease in the the number of people suffering from diabetes due to the curtailment in the food supply by the government. The development of the disease is the direct result of an agent which either hampers the production or absorption of insulin hormone which aids in the metabolism and utilization of glucose in the body.

  • Correlation of diabetes and obesity: Obesity increases the resistance of body for the absorption of glucose. The accumulation of fats around the cell walls and liver decreases the receptivity of the body for the metabolism of glucose which is supplied with the aid of insulin hormone. The outcome of this condition results in the deposition of glucose in bloodstream which is further eliminated in excess through the urinary tract.
  • Hormonal changes associated with diabetes: Obesity obstructs the smooth functioning of the body which in turn sometime alters the course of hormones in the body. The imbalance created in the hormones directly interferes with the diabetic-genetic constitution of the patient. If the patient is outlined with a suppressed or dominant diabetes gene, the condition may worsen. The scope of obesity to intervene in the DNA structuring of human body leads to diabetes especially: gestational and type-2 diabetes.
  • Obesity, diabetes and old age: Diabetes may affect old people due to the reduction in physical activity of the body. The body weight pressurizes the pancreatic functioning of insulin production. This leads to the decrease in the production of insulin hormone which results in the accumulation of glucose in bloodstream.

Recent research conducted on obesity and diabetes:

  • The Diabetes and ObesityResearchCenter: Dr. Kelly at this institute in the year 2007 planned to set a relationship between obesity and diabetes. By studying the molecular biology and genetic composition he stated that the rate of metabolism is directly linked with diabetes.
  • Center for Diabetes Control: This American center concluded that with the rate of increase in obesity from 12% to 20%, the percentage of the diabetic patients has increased by 40%.
  • National Institute of Health: Dr. Philip Kern at this institute established a positive link that binds adipose tissue, obesity and diabetes.

Obesity and diabetes can be cured with effective medication, planned health and diet chart obtained from a doctor or a health guide. If the risk factors of the diseases increase with time, a doctor should be consulted.
