Type-2 diabetes is a self inflicted disease which is observed with the increase in the glucose level of the body with the onset of an insulin resistant state in the body machine which produces insulin hormone at an equal interval but the cells of the body are unable to utilize insulin for the acceptance of glucose into body cells. This condition is followed with the breakage of carbohydrates and proteins stored in the body which causes fatigue, weakness and sudden loss of weight. The non-acceptance of the glucose by the cells can be the result of the deposition of fatty layer around the tissues which is formed with the lack of physical activity and irregular foods items consumed.
What to eat with type-2 diabetes?
Diabetes is a disease of rise in the sugar which can be cured and prevented with the restricted intake of sugar and its products in any form: natural or artificial. The diet chart should be followed in a strict manner.
Carbohydrates: These are induced in the body in the form of its two types: Simple and complex. Simple carbohydrates are easily absorbed by the body whereas; the utilization of complex carbohydrates is a long procedure. According to the American Diabetes Association the division of carbohydrates is on 4 tier system:
- Fruits: All the fruits ranging from apples, oranges to bananas are simple carbohydrates which suddenly surge the level of glucose in the body.
- Starches: These include bread, cereal, pasta, rice, beans, corns and potatoes which are broken down from complex molecules to simple in a long time which gradually surges the glucose level in the body.
- Milk and its products: This comes under the category of simple food and should be avoided.
Fiber: Fiber is a form of unrefined carbohydrate which helps in reducing the after food blood glucose level in the body. It also aids in the utilization of glucose and insulin by the body cells, which is otherwise ineffective. Fiber retains water in the body.
Fats: Fats are of two types:
- Saturated fats: These constitute ghee, butter, whole milk, cheese, beef, mutton and pork which supplement the increase of body weight with the increase of cholesterol in the blood. These are harmful to the body and health.
- Unsaturated fats: These fats are liquid at room temperature. They are divided into monosaturated and polysaturated fats. Monosaturated fats should be preferred then polysaturated fats. Monosaturated fats are: camola, olive, almond oil and rapseed oil. Posaturated fats are: fish oil, corn and sunflower oil.
A general requirement of a diabetic:
- 200 to 300g carbohydrates are required by the body excluding the sugary part of it.
- 25 to 30 kilocalories are required by the per kg body weight.
- 30 to 50 g unsaturated especially monosaturated fat is required.
