Insulin dependent diabetes is type-1 diabetes which is caused due to very less or no production of insulin hormone by the beta cells of pancreas which is an endocrine gland: releasing insulin directly into blood. This can be caused due to autoimmune attack on the production of beta cells. It damages the development of these cells which produce insulin and regulate the level of sugar in the body to the release of insulin in blood. Children up to the age of 20 are severely attacked with this type of disease. The cause of the self damage of beta cells by the body can be the result of a viral or a genetic disorder.

Symptoms of type-1 diabetes are as follows:

Frequent urination: Diabetes affects the kidney system of the body. Kidneys perform the function of excreting excess of glucose and other particles from the body. The development of type-1 diabetes results in the decrease in insulin production and increase in the level of glucose in blood which is in excess, pressurizing the other organs of the body. Thus, kidney performs the function of keeping the body clean by the out flow of sugar in the form of urination.

Increase in the thirst of water: Insulin dependent diabetes directly results in the loss of water due to frequent urination. Body needs water for the neutralization of toxins and increase the rate of metabolism.

Hunger pains: Loss in the absorption of glucose by body cells, force the metabolic system of body to employ proteins and carbohydrates for a breakdown to release energy which is a difficult and tiresome process. It consumes a lot of energy to breakdown protein particles in the body. This increases hunger in a person. Increase in hunger will further lead to the accumulation of unused sugar in blood which can cause a heart trouble or a stroke.

Body pain and depression: Due to the disturbance in normal functioning of body organs, a patient is susceptible to the attack of chronic depression and constant body pain.

Preventive measures to be inculcated to control the negative effects of diabetes:

  • Regular exercise in the form of jogging, swimming, brisk walking and dancing for minimum half an hour on the daily basis.
  • Inclusion of healthy diet containing fibrous food avoiding carbohydrate, starch and fats may help in maintaining weight which is a common factor to cause diabetes.
  • The diet chart and exercise plan can be extracted from a book or a health organization.

Requirement of a diabetic:

  • 30 to 50 mg unsaturated fat (refined, sunflower, fish oil and mustard oil) per kg of body weight.
  • 25 to 30 kilocalories per kilogram of body weight is adequately required.
  • 1 to 1.5g proteins is needed as per kg body weight.
  • 200g to 300g carbohydrate is required as per body weight.
  • Inclusion of fibers: fruits like papaya, green vegetable and cereals.
  • Vitamins and minerals in the form of liquid diet.

With the right approach and diet chart type-1 insulin dependent diabetes can be avoided to cause serious heath troubles like kidney failure, urine infection and heart attack.
