Insulin dependent diabetes is manifested in the form of a juvenile disease which is caused due to the under or non-production of insulin by the beta cells found in the islets of Langerhans. The islets are situated in the tail of the pancreatic gland. The damage in the production capacity of insulin causes abundance of glucose content in the bloodstream raising the thirst and urination rate of the body.

Symptoms of insulin dependent diabetes:

  • Polidipsia: This is apparent in the form of increased rate of thirst. The inability of the body to produce insulin compels the cells to utilize stored proteins and fats for the required energy. This increases the melting of muscles leading to enervation and increase of thirst of water.
  • Glycosuria: This is the rapid increase of glucose in the urine when the fasting blood glucose is more than 180mg/dl. The glucose content in the urine is the result of extreme increase of sugar in bloodstream.

Causes of the destruction of insulin production in pancreas:

  • Genetic factors or inheritance: Hereditary is the common factor established by the researchers worldwide which causes type-1 diabetes. The presence of diabetes gene in dominant or repressed form is linked to the cause of juvenile diabetes. The recent study at American Diabetes Association has traced the connection between the occurrence of diabetes and presence of HLA genotypes in the DNA of the sufferer.
  • Autoimmune system: This is caused due to the self attack of immune system to damage the insulin productivity or functionality of beta cells. The reason is traced in the stimulation of this attack by the auto antibodies supplied by the cow’s milk. The Toronto Hospital for Sick Children researched on the connection between this type of diabetes and nervous and immune system.
  • Deficiency of vitamin D-3: The Study conducted at Northern Finland proved that the scarcity of this species of vitamin in the body can be a pathogenic factor in causing type-1 diabetes.

Treatments available for the patients of insulin dependent diabetes:

  • Insulin Replacement Therapy: This constitutes insulin injections and pumps which supply adequate doses of insulin to maintain the level of glucose in the body. This is supplemented by a diet and an exercise chart by the medical practitioner. A health book can be consulted for the data and statistical related information.
  • Pancreatic transplantation: This method is induced if the production of insulin has completely ceased in the body.
  • Islet cell transplantation: Islet cells are inserted in the liver of the patient where they start producing insulin required to maintain the metabolic rate.

Insulin dependent diabetes is an incurable disorder in the body which can be prevented and treated with right medical advice and effective medication.
