Diabetes is a state in which the quantity of glucose is abnormally increased in proportion with the production and dissipation of insulin hormone in the body. The symptoms of this chronic disorder vary from excessive thirst to frequent urination which once suspected can be easily diagnosed at home and in a clinic. The methods of diagnosis of type-1 diabetes, type-2 diabetes and gestational diabetes are common:

Fasting plasma Glucose Test: The test is conducted in the morning to fulfill its reliability. The patient is recommended to fast for 8 to10 hours before the conduction of the test. Some quantity of blood is drawn from the vein with the aid of a syringe in a clinic. The pre-diabetes condition is a precursor of the disease.

  • If the pre-fasting glucose level is 100 to 125 ml, than the patient can develop the disease if precautionary measures are not implemented.
  • In case of a 125mg/dl or more glucose level, the patient is a diabetic that can be cured with exercise, diet control and mild medication. For more information, a health book can be consulted.

Oral glucose tolerance test: The test is performed by the consumption of a sugar drink by the patient after which blood is squeezed at regular intervals of three hours.

  • In case the sugar level has been estimated near 140 to 199mg/dl, the patient is suffering from pre-diabetes symptoms
  • If the repetition of test within three hours confirms the glucose level equal or above 200mg/dl, the patient is a confirmed diabetic.

Random blood sugar test: A doctor draws a blood sample from the vein and diagnose for the level of glucose level in the body. The presence of diabetes symptoms like itching, pain, increased rate of urination and thirsting along with the blood sugar level more than 200mg/dl is the sign of diabetes in the patient.

Quantitative measurement in a timed sample test: If the readings in the urine and semi- quantitative test are divergent, than this test is recommended to the patients. The urine collected is tested. A high glucose quantity is the sigh of diabetes.

Finger prick blood test: A needle is inserted in the finger to draw a required quantity of blood. The sample of the blood is placed on chemical paper. The chemical strip is tested under a machine which gives exact readings.

After the test and confirmation of the disease, the patient is recommended medications, diet chart and exercise plan which are helpful in the control and regulation of the disease.
